A gasser friend had one at the lake last week & tested it out; I'll check with him If I see him this weekend to see how it worked out.

I have one, they are really neat, compact and easy to use.

how close do you have to be with your boat before it registers? and does it work on hydros where there is very little vertical surface?

Do not know about a hydro....worked great on a 32" mono....distance was not a problem the closer the better....20 degree beam......must be a head on shot moving either towards or away for best accuracy.

if moving away, how about the spray? doesn't that cut into accuracy? It would be interesting to do both radar and GPS to see just what kind of discrepancy exists between the two.

Jesse, I did not try moving away, I like the convenience....do not have to untape to see the speed and can take multiple measurements.
Plus you can use it for many other uses

A friend of mine used one in a plane with GPS and they matched perfectly.
