    JAE .12 Novarossi setup

    Hi,

What would be the fastest reliable Novarossi motor setup for a JAE .12 for oval racing
just been looking at zipkits website and was impressed with the video of Martin Truex .12 to the point as I want to build one.

    any advise appreciated

    Chris

You can get all of your NovaRossi stuff from Glenn. He has a great .12 sized motor for "around" $160 US. I see your in the UK... Do you have a NovaRossi Dealer in your area?

Here is Glenn's info, but I am not sure it's cost prohibitive to buy from the US and have it shipped....

Hi Thanks for the quick relpy

No Rovarossi Dealers in the Uk maybe France

emailed Glenn but no relpy as yet,
not sure what motor Iam looking for there seems to be so many diffrent types of motors for buggys and cars but not many for boat applications so I am a bit confussed!

Is the 12LT5/M the latest .12 motor?

The T12LT5/M is the latest motor, 5 port and timed for boats. I just got one for my Jae .12 build.
I had him do his carb mod on the motor too. He also has the headers and hopefully he will be building some pipes over the winter.
With the carb mod you need an inline needle as well.

Any recommendations for a fast torquey .18 motor instead of a .12
are Dynamite platinum motors any good?
I would like to use a NovaRossi but I don't think they do a .18

What class of heat racing is going to allow the .18 anyway? You will have to race against the .21s and they will leave you in the weeds. Too much displacement for .12 class and not enough for .21.
Just about any motor will work, a fast .18 like a TZ might be overkill. Dynamite are pretty much sport engines but would probably be fast in a JAE .12, depends on the timing. Probably not faster than the NR .12.
Gotta think about the effects of the prop on the boat.
Seems that the ideal props for these are about 38-40mm or 37/3.
I run a modded 1440 prop on mine and it handles absolutely great. Nice level ride, tail doesn't hop, doesn't load up at all in the turns, rpms stay right up there.
Too large a diameter prop will cause handling probs. Too much lift, because of the ski design you are limited to one prop depth, you can't really raise or lower the strut to take into account the effects of a bigger prop.
A lot of time and testing went into this design from some very talented racers, I'd seriously recommend staying within the design parameters if you want the boat to run like the big boys do.
If you want more speed than the .12 build a .21 version and stick a hot .21 in it, and bring a spare set of boxers with you! They are fast!
Riggers are the toughest type of boat to set up and get running right, The JAE takes a lot of the set up out of the equation but they are still a rigger and have an interesting learning curve.
If this is your first nitro boat I don't know that I'd recommend a rigger, a lot of variables, prop, pipe, cg etc. And really wouldn't think that your first rigger is going to outrun those guys no matter how much power you throw at it.
Guys are testing different pipes and props, carb mods everything you can think of the get the last few MPH out of them, this goes for any boat, it's easy to go pretty fast but really hard to go damn fast! And the be all end all is always how fast do you want to spend!
If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?
