    first build newby questions!

    Hi all
Im new to rc boats and Ive got some questions. I am looking @ the 33" delta force as a first build all rounder sport boat. First, is this a good all around hull or should I consider another? second, In this size range what would be a good brushless motor to run. I have a hydra 120 esc and was planning on running lipo's in parallel. Also was wondering what cell count and capacity the batt's should be to get decent run times and power. Would like to build something fairly hot that I can grow with and do it right the first time.
Thanks in advance for the help, I cant wait to get the parts ordered up so I can get to building!!

I would recommend 4s2p and a 9XL for that setup.

Use the feigao on this site. What kind of LiPos do you plan on buying?

I have been using thunder power in my planes, with no troubles so far (knock on wood) Do you have any recomendations? was wondering about amp draw and how the batt's are effected when wired parallel?

          thanks

Overall pack capacity and "C" rating effect how much current you can safely pull from the pack. For example, if you have two 4S1P/3300mAh packs wired in parallel (for 4S2P) your capacity is 6600 mAh. If the packs are rated at 20C continuous, then you can safely pull 132 amps from them - this is more than enough for any sport boat and is well into racing territory. With a 9XL (I'd go with a 10XL but the 9XL will give higher performance) and the right prop you will pull well under 132 amps....although with the wrong prop you can exceed 132 amps so you will have to be careful when setting up the boat for its first few runs.

I use ThunderPower packs exclusively and they have performed great! But that doesn't mean that other brands are not good. Just remember that in LiPos, you get what you pay for. If you buy bargain cells, don't expect world-class power. If you don't need that much power, then lower cost cells would work fine.

A reminder for cold weather LiPo boating - do not run high amp setups with cold packs! They should be heated to at least 70-80F before running, and 100F is better. Their internal resistance is much higher at low temperatures and it is much easier to 'puff' them if you draw high amps when they are cold.

what gains or losses would I see with an 9xl vs. a 10xl and would that be a direct drive setup? Was also wondering what kind of speed and run times I would have with 4s2p batt's, say 4500mah in parallel.

              Thanks

With the 9XL you would be looking at speeds around 40-50 mph. Your runtime and speed would all depend on what prop you decide to use.

How well would this hull handle at this speed? What prop would you rec. for a starting point?
Thanks for the help, I know these are real basic questions. I like to get as much info as I can before I start a new project (planes, helis, buggys, I need a boat!!!)

I have not run that hull but as I understand it is a very good hull.
