    Genesis Stock Drive setup

    Hi everyone
quick question, with the stock flex cable and .. Um square drive cup? setup on the genesis, should i still be leaving a slight gap between the prop drive dog and the strut?
Im going to assume its not needed, but if the flex cable windes up too much obviously it would come out of the square cup at high RPMs?

Its not needed, with the design of that shaft the thrust is pushed against the teflon washer where the drive dog and stinger meet. The idea is that the torque up of the flex cable is handled where the square drive "floats" in that connection. Really kinda a neat design in that no thrust is delivered to the motor shaft.

Much different than what most people who only have single piece flex shafts are used to, but it does work pretty well.

I have never had the square drive come lose from the wire drive, but I suppose it is possible if the gap between the two is way too much.

I have a stock Genesis and have never had a prob with mine!!!! I did loose the pin that hooks the rudder bracket and rudder together once from a flip but a drill bit shank replaced it and now its good!!!

Can you just replace the 2 part flex with a single one or do you need to upgrade the whole drive shave and stuffing tube?

Im still running my stock 2 piece flex cable in mine without any problems 20+ runs with gps around 60mph. Its already a .150 cable but when you start getting into the 48mm+ props you will have to do some modification. Im running a 48mm prop but i had to grind it down for it to fit!!!!!

Keep that square drive greased and oiled REALLY well. After a while they will rust together. Ask me how I know? :-)

              thanks for the replies
I checked it out on my boat when i was comparing it to some 26cc gas boats down at the park and noticed they all had almost 1CM gap between the prop and the strut for when the cable tightens up...
I ran my boat for about 1 minute to give it a first test, see if it was water tight etc because I had to basically remove all hardware from the boat, re mount it with some rubber seals etc

I gave it a few short straight runs, and it really sits odd when the boat is going slow, is this normal?
I also noticed it wasnt "turning in" to any corners.... maybe i wasnt going fast enough.

When you say "sitting odd" you mean it leans to one side? If so, yes its normal. Narrow hull and motor torque casue it. Ive torque rolled mine onto its lid before. She will straghten out once accelerated. Mine turns very well at all speeds from idle to 52mph. What do you mean by its not "turning in" to any corners?

well it was when i ran it slow some times just to see why there was water coming up from the back of the hull.
I think its just going from the strut up the gap between the hull holder and the strut.
But yeah say it was going about 10kmph out into the lake and noticed it sat really heavily on the left side. I thought maybe it had flooded, and i was keeping the throttle at the same rate too
It looks like a lot of them do it on youtube too
maybe ill just go a fair bit quicker and see if it sits better
when i took it out on the weekend there was heaps of "Crap" in the water around the edge so thats why i ran it slow

Yeah man... run that thing! And they all do that wierd water tail straight up behind the boat. Just go fast and it will seem as if its part of the roost

                      Allright
It was about 30 degrees here today so.. late this afternoon I took it for a run down at the lake.
It went really well! couldnt really fault it really

                      Things that happened
Boat went really well! its the second time ive used it and took it out for about 2 mins, brought it back in, found that there was no water leaking inside the hull at all,
re taped and sent it out again for some high speed runs!
Got it up to full speed and it sat flat, no bouncing, could probably do with...
I duno, More Prop i guess?
after some more laps,,, It died.
About 30M from the shore, I gave it a quick burst of throttle to see if i could hear the engine, which i could,... i was like god dammit ive lost the prop!
so i walked out and got it (yeah its shallow :D)
brought it back in and found that the flex coupling from the engine to shaft came loose,
Tightened it back up and it went back out :D

I probably got 7 minutes out of it running at fairly high throttle, before it got too dark and i brought it back in.
I checked the 4S batteries and they are on 15.7V :O

Bad notes - I Hit the bottom, it kicked back the rudder and bent the nylon bolt,
slight bend on the front of the prop as well, which ive just sanded out.

I cannot find these Nylon bolts ! anyone know where to get them from? Id assume hobby city would have them but not in the size needed.

It Looks approx 15mm long, and the diameter looks 3mm

OSE and Kintec have plastic shear bolts. If I were you,run in deeper water.Walking to retrieve a boat is nice and easy, but as you experienced,it can do more harm to your boat than good.My friend and I run at a park where the water is about 2' or so deep. You can walk in this one too.He stuffed his Apparation in the mud where it remained over night.

yeah i actually hit a rock about 2 M from the shore after i put the boat back in the water...
It hit at probably 5kpmh ahahaha
I guess its better the pin shearing than the fiberglass at the back breaking.

I found an electronics store that sells them here, 10 for $3.50 so i might check them out today
