I have used the HXT's from HK with good success. Under 10$ and good up to 23v. For HV setups I have used the KoolFlight BEC. They work well too. For me I have since changed my thoughts about using a UBEC instead of a Rx battery. I have been switching my hulls back over to a battery since seeing an alarming increase in BEC failures or at least them coming to my attention. My thoughts initialy were the BEC device was better, now since seeing folks having their Rx killed by a failing BEC device I am going back to a pack. And there was a time weight Vs power was an issue which was another reason. Now our hulls can easily carry an extra few ounces and get the reliability of a pack. JMO. YMMV.

I'm with John on this. Having had at least a half dozen UBEC failures, three of which shot battery voltage to the Rx & servo & taking out both, I'm currently using the internal BEC's in all five of my setups (which BTW are all 4S). I'm now switching over to my Fut Rx's (at @ $ 85 ea.) which hurt a lot more than smoking a $20 Tactic which I use for sport. { the Fut. Tx has ten model memory and I can preset trims for oval racing-not needed for sport}.
Then again, Mr. Turner [Fluid] recommends and uses a battery pack and he certainly knows his stuff.

I'm a nono to all this stuff, so I have another question.
            I'm using HV-setups ( 10S ).
For the RX i bought an Turnigy 8A bec, and I'll feed it by a separate 2s pack.
Will this decrease the risk of destroying the ext. bec ?

If your Rx can handle 7.4V, [check it's specs - it likely can], just go direct from the
                2S pack.

                    I'm using Futaba Fasst 2.4 , 603 receiver , with digital servo's ( hitec )
hs 5745 and hs 5755 mg, 6V servo's, so I'm afraid they can't handle more volts.

I'd be careful on that. I have seen many spektrum receivers fail, and they are rated for 9v. fully charged Li-po is 8.4v

I've run this Rx combo before ; others have also. Shouldn't hurt servos either. Also, the Tx pack has been in use for over two years with no issues. Just my experience, don't try it if you're not comfortable.

hm, thinking about this topic I decided to test how the ext. bec funtioned with my
                          rx and servo's.

Brand new Turnigy 8-15A bec, and brand new 2s lipo.
No rx attached , connected the bec to the lipo , POOF !

I always use the BEC in the ESC myself, but I do have a couple of Turborix ESCs that don't have an internal one & this is the UBEC I use with them.
