I have a few 29" inch boats and wondered how much running a 4s2p vs. 4s1p would affect speed and handling? as it weighs 2x the 4s1p setups.Just looking for the pro's of going 4s2p ie. amps and double capacity......
4s2p weight differences

you get as you say dubble the mah and C ration with 4s2p.
you also get more weight and when things realy start to move you whant that weight to keep your boat on the water.
also if your battery cant deliver what the motor needs when the volt dropps your ESC might be damaged from that in the long run.
just my €0.2 -
IME 2p will not run any slower than 1p even with the added weight to a point. The benefits of having less voltage sag is greater than the weight disadvantage. Some boats need the added weight as well as the mah capacity. If all of your wishes are granted, many of your dreams will be destroyed!Comment

Video200's post is accurate in all except for the doubled C rating part, going to 2p will not effect the batteries C rating in the slightest.
BakedMopar's explanation of adding 2p to a 1p setup not slowing it down rings true, but I'm not sure that is what you meant as you mentioned double the weight and that would only double the battery weight, it would have to be a full 2p setup to double the weight with 2p batteries, a bigger motor, bigger ESC, stronger hardware and probably some hull reinforcement, such a 2p setup would give you double the power along with double the weight and give you a much higher top speed, it's mass helps it punch through waves better making it more stable in rough water but it will be less agile and coat on a lot further when lifting off the throttle.Paul Upton-Taylor, Greased Weasel Racing.Comment

Most people don't run 2 big packs unless they really want the extra runtime.
2 3500mah packs give you 7000mah. unless you really need say 13000mah from 2 6500 mah packs you will not be doubling the weight.
If your racing you run what you need to to finish a full race and not hit lvc.
Personally don't need the penalty of carrying 10 minutes of juice if you only need 5 minutes.
Cost as well why pay for capacity I don't use.
I find just going out ripping a boat around kinda boring now, I love running a course and practicing that, working on the right setup for the water etc. Trying to find an extra half second in my driving or set up.
All depends on what you want to do with your boat. It's all good, and fun! I'm after peak performance for a set number or laps around a course.
Don't get to race much anymore.
I get a real kick out of just sailing my rc sailboat though, I actually couldn't imagine racing one of those! Although I know if I found someone to sail with it would turn into a race! LOLIf my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?Comment

if using 4s1p 5000 mah 20c that battery should give 100 amp vs 4s2p 5000 mah 20c should be able to deliver 200 amp.Comment

someone ccrrect me if i am wrong but i believe the 4s2p setup he is referring to is still only going to put out 100 amps max...the "C" rating does not double when going to 2p..its just a smoother transfer of energy and easier on the cells/esc with the 2p"FE" STANDS FOR FRUSTRATING EXPLOSIONSComment
-
the actual C rating of the individual cells doesn't increase but because the mah has gone up the setup will be able to put out 200amps constant.... as his mah has increased to 10,000mah x 20c = 200amps constant...Comment
