    sealing the ESC ends

    When I get my ESC back from Steven, would it be ok to seal the open ends of the ESC shrink wrap with a good silicone sealant?

    Thanks

    My first thought is "NO WAY". It will buy you nothing. The shrink wrap is a water containment device and should be treated as such. Potting compound would be my suggestion

      I have a friend who is using a silicon sealent on the end and it seems to work for him. I had a boat from Hobby City that came that way and it works also. I just try and take the time to keep the water out, with some success, chuckle.

        electris;

        Thats what I was thinking of doing to mine. Taking my time to make sure the silicon sealant
        is properly stuffed (if you will) into all the nooks and crannies.

        p.s. and also make sure the boat is water tight. :-)

          What ESC is it? If you do make sure you use a Neutral Cure Sealant otherwise when the silicone cures it gives off gas that can corrode your electronics.

                    they are water resistant to a certain extent.
                    I don't want to take any chance of popping one if it does get wet for one reason or another.

                      Been there tried that, I say don't do it ! By all means disassemble the esc and conformal coat, I use a acrylic coating designed for this purpose. Then re shrink wrap. The problem I found was that if it does by chance get some water past the silicone then it is trapped in there. With the coating just blow esc out with air and away you go.
                      Just my opinion

                              This is what I use http://www.mektronics.com.au/index.p...mart&Itemid=57
                              Have found it great and use on esc, RX and servo boards. No water induced failures since I started using this a few years ago.
                              There are other brands on the market that do the same thing and it is available every where
