    motor mount position df29

the build of my df29 is coming along well... floor laid, hardware and stuffing tube installed... octura flexshaft is joined and rough lenght cut... i m about to drop the motor in the hull and want to check the distances you fellow df29 owners are from the transom... ie front of machined motor mount to the inside of the transom...

in the photo it is approx. 3 1/16"... orig df29 / 9xl / chinese water cooled motor mount..

does this look about right... what distance is yours ??

can t wait till shes finished... i ll get it skootin in winter when the lake is quiet.. thanks for any help

    cheers

I always put all the stuff in the boat in an approximate position and check the balance then move it around until the boat balances.
Thats a good chunk of weight so might as well use it to balance the boat!
I mount the strut, rudder, turn fin, trim tabs, figure out where the servo(s) has to go in relation to the rudder to get a good straight run on the pushrod, figure out you want the esc, then move batts and motor back and forth until I like the positioning and the CG is right.
Some guys mount the motor far back and the batteries forwards, works good if you are running a 1 pack setup and can get the weight low and centered in the hull. Some guys do the opposite, not really a wrong way as long as it balances and you can work on it, don't forget you will eventually have to take it apart!
Do the same with nitro setups, hate adding dead weight to a boat!
If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?

good points... i m going to hit the COG as the next step... esc is gonna sit infront of the motor... bats either side... 2 by 2s... just curious as to the distance other folks have...

This one was 4" I think. I've sold it so I can't check.
          But in a 25"hull I have it at 4" also, & in a 32" hull it's at 4-1/2" if that's any help.

Just make sure it isn't so close that you can't get wrenches on the coupler. Also, so that the cable isn't binding. You can make your CG adjustments with the packs. There is no right spot.

So if I mounted it in the same place as my 29" all should be good ?

                    Brushless.
Yep. That's 4" to the motor mount from the transom.
If you can make it 3-1/2" & still get the spanners on the coupler, then that would be good too. But the further back you mount the motor the steeper the angle of the motor needs to be to maintain a smooth curve in the shaft.
Here's the setup in the Red Devil 25" Delta flop. if it's any help.

                    Paul.

It's an imperial size. I think the one I have is from a packet of those Du-Bro wheel collars. Either the 1/8" or 5/32" collars. I can't remember.

                            Brushless.
I had the Ammo 2300 in my 'Bullet proof' at one stage & the thing ran at 45mph on 4s. The best prop on that setup was the X437/3 blade.
The guy I sold it to has an 8Xl in it now spinning an X440/3 blade & it's a missile.
