Recommend a brushless boat to a noob!

Just some background on me. I'm older now, but I have done a bit of offroad 10th scale electric racing in the past. Then I moved to bashing with 8th scale nitro trucks. I even tried my hand at heli's but it takes absolutely perfect outdoor conditions to fly, and my patience grew thin. Then I started racing again with 18th scale brushless offroad. Along with brushless I discovered 2.4 ghz radios.

And now these brushless boats have caught my attention.

In particular, the Miss Geico Pro Boat is pretty sweet. But is it the best option for a noob? Or perhaps the Supervee 27, or the Fastech, or the Venom King of Shaves?

I want something that does not require hop ups right from the get go. I already have a decent lipo charger. And hopefully my Spektrum radio will bind to the receiver included with the boat.

I'm not afraid to tinker and mod, but I don't want a bad experience right from the start.

The brushless motor is a MUST have.

    What say you?

I think that the Supervee 27 is a great boat to start with. That's just my opinion, since I started with one. And the thing is, I still run it, there's always something to upgrade or change so you'll still love it even after you get some more boats. Which you will, don't worry. Haha.

As with any boat, you're gonna have to change some things before putting it in the water. For example, one thing with the SV27 is the battery trays are in the wrong place. It's nothing major, just requires removing them and putting down velcro in a better place. You'll also have to do some waterproofing to get it running just right, especially with lipos.

You'll have a lot of fun with the SV27. The Miss Geico boat is great but personally, I think you should start with this one.

Get the Geico. You'll spend less time retrieving it from flips than the SV. It comes setup with 2.4ghz. It looks cool. It handles great. Easier to seal up than the SV as well.

Good points! I can agree with you, since the supervee did flip a lot when I first got it. It spent more upside down time than not, haha. And I'll admit, the Miss Geico does look pretty cool

In the end, it's really up to you bimmer.

And I've just seen a video of the Traxxas Titan. Other than the chine walk associated with a V hull, the boat seems pretty solid.

I'll wait for some others to chime in.

Besides the original shipment of Geico's there are zero problems with the boat. The only one was the wrong direction flex. The sv27R has hull issues. The transom cracks horizontally because they decided they didn't need a transom douber any longer. The radio box is not water proof. The esc has no low voltage cutoff. These are not good options for newbies.

I've had experience with many Vee's, and i'll tell you that i have never seen an RTR glued to the water like the Fastech............eats up chop, and is about a 30mph out of the box with lipos. The SV seems unstable to me in general and especially in turns where it hops badly.

The SV27 is a good reliable boat but like Rumdog has already mentioned, you will find it unstable in anything but perfect water conditions. I don't own anything from Proboat other than electronics (wich seem to be bullet proof) but I have not read anything negative either. They have shipped the MG with the wrong direction of cable but they are resolving that issue. The Traxxas Titan looks like is going to be a cool boat but alot of members including myself have been waiting for it to be released for months and you should consider that it is their first attempt at a brushless boat so who knows what troubles might arrise.

Just make sure to take a fishing pole or a raft with you for the first few trips

If your spektrum radio has the marine sticker on it, it should bind to the rx in the MG. My vote is going to go with the MG for all the reasons already listed. I too like most started with a SV as my first BL boat, but without a doubt I like my MG better than I like my SV. Their is video of both boats in my signature, just click the name of the boat. I took a lot of work to get the sv running so it doesn't flip all the time and now that it runs good I like it but it took a lot of work. MG charge batts and play only first adjustment (besides flexshaft issue) was to stick a 642 prop on it. It worked great, plus after you learn how to drive and learn about boats (a lot different than car/helis) you can move up to different voltage like 5s on the stock electrics to really get some good speed.

MG is a great, stable hull. SV27 is ALSO an EXCELLENT boat... but for a right off the bat beginner go with the MG, stable, quick, looks awesome! This is a boat you can drive in all conditions.

I can definitely see now why a lot of you are recommending the Miss Geico boat. It's definitely more stable and controllable. The thing I like about the SV27 is the fact that there is a lot to do on it. I feel like the reason I've learned so much is because of how much work I had to put into the boat. Sure, it might now have all the perks of the MG like a LVC, but it's a great boat. I've got it set up running beautifully.

                          My opinion:
While the Miss Geico is a great plug and play boat, the Supervee 27 will properly introduce you to FE Boats and what work goes into them.
