120A esc too small for <30" hydro?

    Hey guys,

I'm starting up my winter projects pretty soon. Picked up a pretty sweet deal from eboat on a Miss Llumar and I'm thinking about doing the following:

Miss Llumar hull (27.5" hydro hull)
    Leopard 4074 2000kv motor
    4S

Is the Seaking 120A ESC too small for the above?

I would say too small for the leopard. I think they have around 120 amp rating, similar to the castle. I would go with the T-180 or switch to a 540xl can.

I ran my converted llumar on a feigao 9xl with a t-120. It ran in the mid forties on an x642. The t-120 may work with a small prop, but I wouldn't chance it. If it blows, your out the 120 and you'll have to get a 180 anyways.

          I ran a Miss Lumar on a 9XL and a SV27 controller for 2 years....120 is plenty!

I ran the seaking 120 with a 2200kv motor on 4s and it lasted 3 minutes.
Got the 180 and its perfect.

I would say the 2000kv leopard will be fine with the "right" prop.... but you won't want to overprop... that 4074 leopard, as I am sure you know, is comperable to a 1515.... its close to a 1y 1515 in amp spiking ability.... It definately could smoke that esc in a hurry with the wrong prop... if you are careful and keep an eye on temps then you will be fine..... but it wouldn't take too long running on the wrong setup to see the magic smoke... I smoked a 120amp speedo on a pickle for hydro with a 8xl and the "wrong" prop....

A fellow scale racer who built my scale hydro has a 2200kv red leopard on 120amp speedo and a octura 442 prop. On 4s, it has ballistic speed and is built heavy, like mine. I plan on the same setup. Our boats are 36in long.
