    Which 30" Hydro hull

I have an Aquacraft UL-1 and am looking for a hull (30" hydro range) that handles better at higher speeds and wont break the bank. Obviously it would be great if I could move the hardware from the UL-1 to the new hull as well. I've looked at the Whiplash kit, the Phil Thomas hulls and the Insane FE30. Does anyone have any experience with any of these specially compared to the UL-1. Any other hull recommendations welcomed as well. All input is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I have had a UL1 and I run an FE30. There is no comparison. The hull stays glued to the water at unbelievable speeds and you can at least use your motor and maybe the hardware although I used the hardware designed for the boat. The other two boats you have listed also have steller reputations. You are on the right track.

The nice thing about the FE is you get a high gloss, high quality hull that requires no painting or sanding. Something to to think about.

I just ran my FE for a friend on Sunday in a small pond and was doing around 50mph (because the pond is to small) and he bought one the next day. I have run up into the high 50's and never a hint of blow over and it handles chop really well.

I have an FE30 and have raced a whip. I gave the whip to a great friend. I just bought another whip kit so I have a little experience with both.

FE30 turns like no other. Very stable at the speeds I am driving. I will out corner anything on our lake. AMAZING finish to the boat. Great hardware if you buy the Insane set.

Whiplash was perfectly stable with no bad habits. It turned very well also, not as sharp as the Insane hull. Down the straights it didn't hop and tracked very straight.

The way I would decide is if you are ready to build a kit for $100 bucks less or just just flop your gear over to the Insane. You won't be disapointed either way.

Either way get new hardware. Both hulls deserve a little better.

I have rumdogs old Phil Thomas stealth he built just over a month ago... Has a leopard 4074 2200kv.... The boat is hooked and very very impressive... I had not liked hydros much til I got this one.... Absolutely amazing boat.... Hits around 60 with the leopard and never lift my finger off the pin through the turns... I highly recommend the pt stealth too!!! It's so hooked I've been debating on throwing more motor at it... I've been starring at 5 castle/neu's sitting on the workbench... Hmmm 1518 or maybe the 1520 would push her even faster.... The hull definately begs for more !

Hey JMSCARD I have the same setup as the PT Rumdog built. I agree 100% with everything you have said about the Stealth. After watching the guys I run with running Whiplashs I am VERY happy with the Stealths similar performance. Same thing here full throttle all the way around, even into a decent breeze and she stays glued to the water! I've been running a M445 prop and the esc and motor are at 85-90 and the batteries are about 100. Gonna try a M545 next time out. Man I really love this boat!

I've raced a Whip in LSH with my FE-30 and had a bit of speed on him - which was probably setup. Both handle well enough on the 1/16th mile course so no advantage there, both corner great. I've raced the older PTSS21 in P Sport Hydro trim - both the Whip and FE-30 can handle speed better....but the new PT hull may be different.

I don't think you will go wrong with any of them. If you like to build then the Whiplash; if you like to spend time finishing a hull then the PT; if you just want to rig it and run then the FE-30.

Great feedback, just what I was looking for. Reading everyones input, I've narrowed it down to either the Insane FE30 or the Phil Thomas Stealth Sport Hydro 30. I did not see a hardware package option on the Phil Thomas website; does the price quoted come with the hardware (it is shown in the pics on the website on the hull) or is one available? Those running either of these boats, may I ask what motor, esc and battery setup you're running. Thanks Guys

No hardware comes with the Stealth. The instruction sheet lists what is needed. Basically a Speedmaster hydro strut and rudder. I'm using the heavier upgrade UL-1 turn fin. All the parts needed for the whole build (strut, rudder, motor mount, tubing, complete driveline, esc, motor, etc) are available right here on OSE. I'm running (and JMSCARD also I believe) Leopard 4074 2200kv motor, Seakng or Turnigy 180 esc. Don't know about his batteries but I'm using 2-2s Zippy Flightmax 5800 30c batteries hooked up in series.

Yeah the funny part is I don't think either of us knew what the other was using when we built them. We were pretty much building them at the same time, it just took me ALOT longer to finally get her in the water. LOL

I am running a Neu 1515 1y(2200kv) , Turnigy 180 ESC, 4s. Lot's of props, still sorting it out. I am testing a 447 that has been modified quite a bit, but I am starting to think the 445 done right is the ideal prop. Others here have way more experience , so I am sure they will comment.

There are a lot of people running the UL1 motor and as I understand it, this is one of the approved motors for Limited Sport Hydro class races. People are well into the 50's with this motor.

A UL-1 motor is on my winter shopping list. We were wondering how it would do in the Stealth hull. I know it's hard to go backwards with speed even if it means a few extra laps. Will have to wait until next spring to see. Maybe!

I raced against the new Phil Thomas hull in MN 3 weeks ago. It is VERY comparible to my whiplash. As was already mentioned, you can't go wrong with any of the above listed hulls.
