    Industrial Strength Velcro

    Hey guys,

I'm going to be tearing my boats down pretty soon for the winter....where do you guys get your velcro from??

Because I've noticed a HUGE difference between the boats I've bought from OSE members with velcro already in them and the velcro sold at my local hardware store.

The velcro stuff you guys are using takes two hands to remove my battery packs

    Thanks in advance!

look for extreme velcro at hardware stores home depot carries it, if you can try to strap the battery as well, another handy item you can find in the velcro section is one wrap which is like a tyrap but velcro i use it in everything to secure my batts

I get the industrial strength stuff at Walmart. They also have 30" straps that I use to secure boats to my pvc stands.

Believe it or not, they actually rate this stuff by:

            1. Pull-Apart Force - Amount of force it takes to pull apart a specified area of hook and loop

            2. Shear Strength - Amount of force it takes to slide hooks over loops (sideways).

Check out McMaster Carr. The real cheap velcro is far less in pull apart force. That might be what you have!

there are 2 types of "velcro", that might explain the diff in "strenght" you've seen in various boats.
Velcro ; 1 side with hooks, 1 side with "woolly stuff"
Velcro : 1 side with hooks, other side has hooks aswell : DUAL LOCK

                My dollars worth.

3M brand adhesives on the Velcro trademark pieces. If your not using the real stuff you get what you pay for. Besides what folks have already noted you can get the pile side ordered in various thicknesses also, but they are custom orders. this gives varying degrees of "bite" from crying while you try to pull two pieces apart to thick, shock like applications that are fairly easy to seperate.

Gerwins link is great among a few other nice ones too.

The VELCRO industrial strength adhesive is amazing, will stick to just about anything. I use it on all my RC boats, cars and trucks.
