Hi, will the Mystery 80 amp ESC work with a pistol tx or only a stick? Thanks

I will throw something in about the Mystery ESC:
I saw a Mystery controller run at 38 mph in a cat, then it was changed to a Hex controller with the same setup and the boat ran 42 mph. The FET's in this controller must have a higher internal resisitance than most.ReddyWatts fleet photo

yeah go ahead ReddyWatts, Mystery's are C... but so cheap (I got the last one for 15$ on E bay and 2 other for spare), IMO these are just good enough for introduction to Brushless system, they are also pretty robust, the first one I got has been flooded twice and still works fine.
I think a good thread explaining why a Mystery 80Amp ESC does not give as good result as a 120A (Hex or CC) when pulling almost 80amp of a setup will help a lot of people.
BTW I'm not sure they have higher resistance FET, it might just be that on a 120 there are more FET so the total internal resistance is lower at the end.
Now those who know, should certainly aware beginners to avoid buying a Mystery80A at 40$ while they can have a Hex120 for less than 50!
beware of Mystery ESC there are at least 3 different series (I have 2), they all play different music and have different programing... isn't it mysterious? lolComment

I agree they are very robust. Have seen them run 160F external and 92 amps.
I am not recommending trying it.ReddyWatts fleet photo

yeah that's certainly Robby76's C-1 Cat Reddy's talking about! he did gain 6mph when he jumped from the Mystery to the Hex120... that's why I just ordered one :)Comment

They seem to be a good "sport"controller. I use them & they work. Everyone should keep in mind that this is a "DISPOSABLE ESC" There is likely no tech suport for what we do with them let alone a snowballs chance in a return or replacment. When I order them I wright the 50 bucks off as if I burned it. When you invest in a CC Hydra or cuda you pay for a replacment & tech suport upfront. It's a nice option to have.Last edited by SJFE; 10-23-2007, 02:40 PM.Comment

I was there with Robby when he was doing his test runs with these controllers.ReddyWatts fleet photo

DISPOSABLE ESC they are, but.... they lasted over a year until rolled cat and got wet. one did not recover. so i spent less then $200 on 4 Hex120 amps. i can afford to do this. now throw in the hydra 120 @ $200 each.....that i can't afford on my sport running.
brushless is the way to go and can be done with "less" expensive products on the market today.
even ole reddywatts is running with an awesome HV 100amp ESC with a KB45 motor.
for sport running, they are dependable.Comment
