I know for alot of you racers this may sound dumb but is there any thread anywhere that shows all the different classes as well as the rules and regulations? I am asking because I want to get a couple of my boats legit for a couple racing classes for next year as I am gonna make it a goal to travel for a couple races...

Check the NAMBA and IMPBA web sites, there are rule books there, but unfortunately, a lot of their "approved" motors are of a Jurrassic nature!
Tell us what you have and we can tell you what classes they would probably be "legal" in.Grand River Marine Modellers

Thanks Doby for the reply.... Look at my signature... I have a df 29, df 33, df40, df sniper, 2 aeromarine titan 29's, a mean machine, a new woodstuff 32" tunnel just got from mike(cyberxt), a 44" aeromarine team America cat.... I have a outrunner in but am debating on slapping a 2230 in.... Also have my twin m1 supercat, the 54" MHz with twin 2215's, also have the Phil Thomas stealth which I def wanna race, I also have enough lipos and motors/escs on hand to mix and match them I to being legit I think... If I just knew what that is.... I know that I would like to get the set up and trimmed with the legit racing equipment prior to the week before the show... Lol...I also have other boats too like a df vortex, etc., bit I would like to be steered to the most "fun" classes to race also.... I appreciate the help!!!Comment

Speaking for IMPBA, their latest IMPBA rules are in the Dec. 2008 Roostertail newsletter starting on page 10. They can be a little hard to understand the first time you read them.

The very popular Spec or Limited Classes are not national classes in the IMPBA so you wont find any rules. Most of these classes have rules created by clubs or districts. Hopefully one day we will have standard Limited class rules in the IMPBA.Mike Chirillo

I have 4 2s 30c 5000mah ploy rc's, 4 6s 30c 5000mah ploy rc's, (had more 35c 5050mah polyquests but they are now with cyberxt) I have 16 turnigy 4s 5000mah 40-50c batts, 4 2s Turnigy 5000mah 40-50 batts, 4 4s 5000mah 30c flightmax, 4 5s 5800mah 30c flightmax, 3 6s 5000mah 30c flightmax, I also have 12 3700mah rhinos in 3,4, and 6s pack configurations.... I have a bunch other lipos too... Some elites, tanics, way too many... Another reason I am leasing a hobby space in a warehouse... The misses didn't like the lipo fire issues being so close to home.... I also have alot of different motors 1515 1.5's, 1515 2y, neu 1521 1y, 1527 1y, castle 1512 1800kv, castle 1518,1520,1717, 2215 1y's, lil screamers, scorpion 4035/800kv's, two lehner 2250 high amp 12t, leopard 4074 2200kv, fiego/nemesis 8,9,10,12 all xl's, a couple 36/56 ammos, I will stop there ... I have enough hv/lv esc's too for all my boats... You tell me what the ideal setup would be in each boat for a desired class and that's what I will be running... Wether I already own the motors or need to buy a new one... I figure I'd like to go with 3 or 4 boats to run on a raceday... I know that's alot but I'll be traveling an wanna make it worth it:):) that way I'll be too busy to be a turn Marshall.... I hate turn marshalling.... Oh yeah there aren't turn marshalls in boat racing are there? My boats have all sorts of combos in them now for sport running... Most are neu's and some fiegos but I am willing to change anything over to the "hot" setup to qualify me for certain classes.... I am going to make a point of making it to some races this next season... I've said it to long and next year is gonna be my year!
I run 5.5mm bullets on everything... Motors and batts except my big motors/hv controllers I run 8mm bullets...
I am planning on probably going Hyperion lipos for racing tho...Comment

DF 33 can run in P-Mono using any motor and 4S2P configuration.
Woodstuff can run in OPC with a UL-1/BJ/SV motors and 4S1P
The 44" Cat could run in an open hydro class (Max 10S2P)
The 54"Mono could run in Open Mono (Max 10S2P)
The DF Sniper could run in Open Mono as well.
Classes vary by clubs and who brings what on any particular day...we run an Open Cat class....29" to 50+" hulls on everying from 4S2P to 10S2P.
Thens there always popular "run what you brung" class.
The spec classes on 4S1p are the most popular using the UL-1/BJ/SV motors.Grand River Marine Modellers

I think I like the idea of racing my sniper and my df33 along with my mean machine in spec class..... And getting another tunnel to run in he spec tunnel class....Hmmm the options.... Thank you doby!! I am going to do some moe research today at work... Lol.
my mhz is the big cat I have doby... its not a mono..... but I probably wouldn't race that anyhow as Im not a experienced enough racer to do so... probably cost me alot of heartache....
whats the best motor for my df29..... or for the spec class in general.... do most guys run the UL-1 motor?
Thanks for the help gents!!
OK,,,,,lets see.....DF 29, Titans and Mean Machine could run in Limited Spec Offshore with a UL-1/BJ/SV motors and 4S1P

As a District FE Director for NAMBA, a couple comments:
DF 33 can run in P-Mono using any motor and 4S2P configuration.
It can also run in the P Offshore class.
Woodstuff can run in OPC with a UL-1/BJ/SV motors and 4S1P
Legal as a P OPC tunnel with any open motor and a 4S2P power metric.
The 44" Cat could run in an open hydro class (Max 10S2P)
There is no such thing as an Open Hydro class in NAMBA. This model is perfectly legal as a T Hydro or T Offshore FE boat.
The 54"Mono could run in Open Mono (Max 10S2P)....The DF Sniper could run in Open Mono as well.
Again, no official Open Mono class. Legal for T Mono and T Offshore.
Because the rules for NAMBA and IMPBA can differ slightly, you need to know where you will be racing and what organization they run under. "Open" classes, along with the "spec" classes, are club-only rules not sanctioned by NAMBA or IMPBA. That will be rectified in the future, but it does hamper the racer wanting to travel to out-of-town races: is the Scorpion motor allowed in the 'spec' classes? Not in most clubs, but yes in a few.....
Another example are the large (250+ boats) East Texas races put on several times a year by fuel clubs. They welcome FE guys, but they are often limited by FE attendance. We can fill up LSH, T Offshore and P Sport Hydro pretty easily, but sometimes there are not enough boats of a particular hull/power type to make a 5-boat class minimum. In that case the sponsoring club may group hull types together - a Q-Open class with any hull type is one. The idea is to be as inclusive as possible and let everyone who wants to race have a class for their boat. This bastardizes the NAMBA/IMPBA rules a bit, but allows for more fun for all. That's really what matters.
