What P-limited "Spec" classes do you race?

For those of you who race... What P-limited "Spec" classes do you run? Vote for each class that you currently race in.

    Just for clarity....
I was looking for classes that you currenlty race, or would race if the racing venue allowed for it. (Provided that you still own/possess that p-spec boat.)

If you no longer own, or intend to race that class, do not vote for it.

Also, what other class(s) would you like to see raced in the P-limited "spec" class? Example: P-limited mono (Sprint)
    96
    P-SPEC LIMITED HYDRO (Rigger)
    0%
    22
    P-SPEC LIMITED OFFSHORE (LSO)
    0%
    17
    P-SPEC LIMITED OPC (Tunnel)
    0%
    22
    P-SPEC LIMITED SPORT HYDRO (LSH)
    0%
    30
    P-SPEC LIMITED CRACKERBOX
    0%

We don't have crackerbox out here.... yet... Some guys are building them.

I could see a mono class, is suppose.

Our club works like this right now:

    P-Limited Sport Hydro
    P-Limited Hydro
    P-Limited OPC Tunnel
    P-Limited Offshore
    P-Mono

    1/10th Scale Modern (Div 2)
    1/10th Scale Vintage (Div 1)

    Spec-SV27

P-Mono is our only "open" class right now, and we rarely get more than 3-boats.

The SV27 guys run their SVs in the SV class, and also in Offshore...

I've decided for next season that I'm going to stop running P-Limited Sport Hydro and just concentrate on the 1/10th Scales for my "Sport" hydros... Same power system, a little bit slower, but hulls that will handle the power, water conditions, and also that fulfill the "resemble real hydros" factor...

I will keep a P-Limited Sport Hydro ready to go, just in case... or for National events. (Likely the Insane boat I haven't put together yet...)

I am thinking of putting together a spec class that is not a standard on the list. This would be for club running purposes only. A specific hull, motor, hardware and prop. The exacts are not decided upon yet but I wanted to run something at our gas clubs pond that anyone could run.

Very appealing concept. In the long run, this would be a money saver .

I currently have boats that I can field in the following classes...

              P-Limited Sport Hydro -UL1
              P-Limited Hydro -JAE (off plans)
              P-Limited OPC Tunnel -VS1
              P-Limited Offshore -Aquacraft Proto CAT

I am a big advocate for these P-Limited classes. These classes are a very large open door to attract new FE boaters. Some may be new to boats all together, but some may be Nitro or Gas boaters too.

That's exactly what our "Spec-SV27" class is... Though now it's a little mixed up with the new SV27 motor just introduced. Stock SV27's with a spec'd Grim/ABC 42x55 prop, sharpened and balanced, but otherwise untouched.

It's the biggest class we have, and part of the key to that is that we also offer P-Limited Offshore, giving them all a second place to race.

If they really want a third class, they also race in P-Mono.

These boats are like the Crackerboxes of the modern times, however, so not always the easiest to drive in traffic, ect., but they do challenge you to get better.

NOT saying this should be the class, Alan, just giving an example of this TYPE of class having much success.

Seems the IC crowd has a very popular RtR [as in "spec"] thing going with basically stock nitro Miss Vegas's. Check out the RtR forum on IW. 20 entries at at recent race. A spec'd FE Vegas class , Alan ? Just a thought.

That must have been the Evansville,IN race. The "spec" RTR class is big down there. It seems that "spec" racing is popular for FE, nitro, and gas. Gas Thunder Boat, which uses a stock Zenoha 26cc engine is gaining in popularity in my district as well. It's cheap fun and makes the racing more about driving and setup skills. Spec/limited classes are by far my favorite classes.

Mike, call me anytime. You stil have my number right?

What I am looking at is to get the guys who run gas into some FE. We have members but they are not going to go out and invest into FE without having some knowledge. I like the setup that Chuck St Romain is using on his cat. He posted this on IW in the FE section.

I then found 2 different hulls on the r2hobbies site....the 30" cat and mono. I would just buy the hulls and hardware then router out the rails or mounts so that all the hulls would be the same. The cat is pretty slick looking. Both hulls for less than $70. Theoretically you could have a rtr less cells hull for less than $250. Then we would need some cheap transmitters and cells. It would be ideal to load up the boats with 10000mah's or more and be able to run 3 sprint heats without charging. Or run a couple of offshore heats. But the hulls would all have to be setup the same or it would be pointless to run them. I am getting a bit excited about this.

I would like to do something similar with my predominantly nitro club. There is definitly interest among the nitro racers, but most do not feel confident enough with their knowledge about FE to invest.

The purpose of this thread/ poll was to see what classes we here in Dist 4 should focus on for growing FE racing.

The reasoning for my thought process is that many of the current classes are basically on the smallish size. Since I hope to snag some gassers into this the boats would need to be large enough for them to want to run it. But also have some speed and handling. I would prefer to start with a mono for its forgiving nature but they are slower. Everyone loves a cat but could be more difficult for some of the racers. I could not forsee the older gas guys fooling around with an LSH or tunnel. That would be mostly frustrating for them. Especially when you tell them that their out of the box boat needs some work and new parts to run well. I wanted to stay within the current specs for spec running but concluded for KISS I would alter the setups a bit. Prob even run plastic props since it would make maintaining and financing the class easier. Not sure if I set the hulls up for 4 or 6s yet either. Some 6S motors are running very efficiently and it seems most 4S are bit more amp hungry. But I have not looked into many motors yet.
