    44 inch cat which neu?

    hi all,

i just purchased a nice top secret boats gen 2 cat...i want to get into the 70's with this hull..the owner told me he has gone 68 with no issues with his gas setup so i am optimistic...my question is which wind would suit me best for sport running..i was looking at the neu 2215 2y 750 kv and the 1.5y 1020kv...i was thinking 12s2p for the 2y or 9s2p for the 1020kv...i am leaning towards the 750kv because all my other boats are setup for 6s lipo and i have the packs to do it..but pros and cons are welcome...i have seen some cats running on 10s with the 1.5y but it seems like too much rpm...what to do? i am open to other power options too but i do want to stick with single screw..i am an neu sucker though..they are tough to avoid using

    happy boating

I think to attain the speeds you are looking for you are going to need a NEU 2230... sounds like it is a "gas" layup hull too? which means its hefty.... with the 2215 you will probably only see 60... just my guess from my 44" aeromarine team america cat.... big boat and with the 2215 KR joye was only able to get around 60 out of that boat.... and it was in race trim.....

ouch! well that puts a damper on my plans a little..i thought i could do it after reading a thread here with a conquest hull getting to 70 with the 1.5 y 10s with single power..might have to rethink this one a little...thanks for the input JMS

        RIPFENCE,

I am running a carbon fiber F-41 Stryker with Neu 2215 1.5y on 10s2p. It weighs 18 pounds. It got 75 mph out of it with a x646. I made about 40 runs with it and the motor short circuited. I am exchanging it for a 2y to see how that does.

        Good Luck,
        Mike

I think the stryker is a 41" hull? I am thinking the top secret is a heavy hull.... I may be wrong....

          Is this the girl ripfence?

          Nice wheelie bars.. :)

Ok keep me posted on how things go with the 2y..thats sounds promising if i can keep the weight around yours..i really want to avoid twins or another 2230 if i can..that must be a wicked boat! I suppose if the 2215 does not do it for me i can sell it for sure and save for another big can 2230..are you going with 12s with the 2y wind?..thanks mike

I guess i will never know unless i try it out..i have not seen any posts about this hull so its a shot in the dark i suppose..i hope i am not disapointed with it..i think its a cool looking hull..as long as it performs like it looks then i should be happy with..

                      Rummy,

Yes, 75mph in a non race set up with a best of 76.2. Using the online "Top Speed" tool on OSE really works. I GPS at 68-70 in race trim. I just move the 4 - 5s packs up to keep it in the water. Racing "Open Cat" with the gassers creates too many wakes.

                      Thanks,
                      Mike

the x646 3 blade has surprised me on a few of my boats also with big power behind them...i run one on my df35 with a 1527 1y on 7s and its the best prop with speed and run time i have tried..same thing with my mean machine...its small for a 2215 to spin so the rpms must be helping you along with the the less prop slippage with three blades....do you have any heat issues and how long are your run times mike?

                          Ripfence,

The rpm's are high, but the small prop keeps the speeds up, especially in the corner. I tried a few bigger two blades but it bogged the motor when I nailed it.
I had heat issues running 1p. They were Poly Rc 5s 25c 5000mah. I switched to Hyperion 35c 5000mah running 2p and they barely get hot.
If you plan on using this motor, be sure to grease the cable after every run. I snapped a cable in the spring by not doing this. The last race I checked the cable after each race and there was no grease left.
I am not sure about total run times.

                          Thanks,
                          Mike
