Motor problem - can seems to spin

I have kind of an urgent question - I'm supposed to be running tomorrow morning and I'm not sure if I have a problem... I have a Hobbyking XL motor mounted in a hull. It's secure, but I noticed that the outside of the can turns. I have never seen anything like it - its very hard, but I can turn the motor and water jacket back and forth a quarter inch and the prop turns while the "face" of the motor can stays firmly mounted. Am I out of the water? Thanks for your help.

I wouldn't run that motor until you fix it! Magnets could contact the coils and short out and fry your esc!

Take the motor out and take the endbell off. I use a thin layer of JB weld (not kwik) and let it sit over night. That is what was recommended by Steve Neu of Neu motor when I had a older Neu enbell come undone. I've used epoxy on some Feigaos but with time and heat they seem to become undone eventually. Good idea to have thrust bearing so it prevents it.

Dang. I was in denial there - as if that wasn't really a problem, right? Thanks for the cold hard truth.

Pictures: I will show a picture of my setup - but I don't know if I can illustrate the failure...

Red motor: Yes, it is one of the red ones from H.K. Man, you guys are good.

Well I didn't run that boat Sunday - thank for the advice - safety first! Very nice Castle ESC in that boat. In frustration I immediately ordered a motor - a Neu 1515.

I got a chance to pull the problem motor out and inspect it. Have a look at this picture, the end bell is threaded so no problem-o I think. I locktited it and tightened it up. Runs great with no load. I might owe China an apology for some cursing :)

Looks like I will have a spare motor now. These red Feigo knock offs are only rated at 800 cont./1600 max watts I think. The 1515 is rated at 1250/2500 so I'll have some more power on tap.

Once you try the Neu you will be impressed. I used Feigao's forever and they are ok motors, but I then I got a couple of Neu's and they are so much cooler and reliable running. Each motor has its place and I still run both, but the Neu's are sooo nice....

In the past I tested one of the Castle Creations 1515s (for one minute without water cooling) and I'm a pretty huge fan of the Neu stuff. I went sorta gonzo with 6S. Check out this brief video. (lots more potential than shown)

Going with the knock off was a budget decision :)
