Run a BEC or rx pack?

This is gonna be a long drawn out question, so bear with me.
I am just getting started with FE boats. I have been running Electric rock crawlers and electric cars for quite some time.
On my rock crawlers i use a castle BEC to directly power my High voltage servos,
( JR 8711HV 486 oz at 7.4v). Only the signal wire is plugged into my rx from the servo, power comes from battery thru bec to servo. Always ran them like that never had a problem.

Now on a boat. I have heard bec this rx pack that!! Not to sure on how to set up my boat.

I am planning on running a CC Hydra 120esc, aquacraft sv 1800kv motor, with a tower pro mg946r servo in a kintec prince.
    Radio is a futaba 4pk.
    ( On either a 3s 30c 4800mah or 2x 2s 30c 4900mah.)
I am planning on running a CC bec from the batteries to the rx and just unplugging the red wire from the esc.

What would be a instance you would prefer a rx pack over a bec?

Thanks for any and all advice.
My work boat has 12,000 HP!!!

I'll shoot in my peso's worth.
On my crawler I live with the 2A bec output from the esc, this stops me rooting servos, linkages, tires etc.....you obviously know the drill.

Now for my boats I run a mixed bag.
My smaller ones run with the bec from the esc and my larger ones run with a Rx pack.
For me I have a few reasons for this.
The little guys can not fit a rx pack in and seem to run well with the bec.
The bigger hulls do not suffer from the extra weight and I see the rx pack as clean reliable power.
My big cat has twin esc's that have bec, the red wire is pulled on both and a 5xAA Nimh pack feeds the servo and Rx. Same for my big rigger except it only has one esc.

My rule says that if I can fit a rx pack (and I have a 5xAAA in my mid rigger) in there then I put one in.

Just my way of doing it.
    See it....find the photos.....sketch it it....build it........with wood
