New ESC, how to figure out amp draw.

Yup, I need a new esc for my surge crusher(and maybe one that last's for the 'next' boat to)

How do you figure out the amp draw from the system? the engine is stock, and I'm told it's a 18/2000 kv engine. The stock esc and motor were not hot at all when running on 4s, but on 5s it lastet only 5 minute's, fun while it did.

I've seen some say mah x c rating, but that seems to easy..

    prop , prather 215.

I'm looking at geting the Hifei Swordfish 120 amp. I quess it should be enought for this boat and 5s?

Short clip of the boat on 4s and 5s. stock

That formula is related to batteries constant amps. Is the motor a 36mm/56mm can? If is it at 2000kv should be around 50 - 60 amps, It will spike higher though. Just a guess. I could be WAY off. Anyway IMO I think a swordfish 120 would do fine if properly proped that motor shouldn't touch that in constant amps if it did something is wrong. O and disconnect the bec on 5s, and cut the runtime to approx 3-4 minutes. Make sure you get a program card or usb programmer with that esc

Actually if is a 36-50 motor that would make sense then the 18 would represent the number of turns which would put your kv at right around 2000kv and then you amp pull would be mid 30s either way the 120 esc should work no problem. If it is a 36-50 a prather 215 would be about as big a prop you would want to use and maybe even a x438 maybe better. I am not familar with this hull though.

      What is the hulls dimensions?

I would say get the highest amp quality ESC you can afford. This way if you decide to go to a larger or more aggressive boat, you can transfer it to the new boat.
