Anyone know of a motor mount for a Leopard 5692?I like the water cooled mount for the 4074 motors, but the 5692 obviously doesnt fit.I would prefer a water cooled mount just for the added insurance, but its not a requirement. One that has a rear support would be nice.I know Pete makes mounts, just wondering if anyone has seen any anywhere else?I dont have stringers in my hull and am not quite up to par on installing them yet.Any suggestions?

The motor is new enough that finding a non rail mounting system is going to take a little time. It will happen thats for sure. But something you might want to consider is the 5692 has a lot of torque. A floor mount is going to concentrate that energy in a small footprint. That could lead to stress cracks or even serious structural destruction. Rails are simple, they distribute the force over a greater surface area. They add rigidity to the floor. And the size hull for 5692's use is going to be large anyways. Come over to the dark side! Its got its benefits.

Want to put it in my Drifter L.Ive never put stingers in a hull yet.Not to sure how to do it.Im all about not having cracks in my hull.I also cant find amp ratings on it.Doesnt the amp rating of a motor give you a starting point as to what esc you need?Comment

Make up a set of stringers out of plywood. Mock up the whole assembly with the motor, mount and stringers. Once you get it set where you want it, tack it with a little 5-minute epoxy in a few spots to hold it in place. Then you can take your time with some fiberglass or cf and resin. I agree it will be waay stronger than a bottom mount!Comment

Sweet.Thanks.I might just use fiberglass since I have it and not get CF.Maybe paint the inside of the hull.Comment

I back ordered a hull a while back from tower.Hasnt come in yet.Ive been working out of town for the past month so havent had much time for anything.I did glass over the break in the sponson last saturday though.Going to lay glass on the floor to try to water proof it and strengthen it.If it holds water,Ill use it and cancel the tower order.I do miss it even though I always had work on it.Comment

I did the stringers on my gas boat. It wasnt too hard. I got some birch ply from the hobby shop and fabricated the stringers to the shape and length I wanted. I had a friend bevel the bottom of the stringers to match the angle of the hull bottom. I wanted four inch spacing so I accurately cut two small pieces of wood to four inches wide and using a very small finishing nail. Nailed the rails to the wooden spacers (Dont hammer the nails all the way flush, Youll need to pull them out). This kept the rails properly spaced and positioned for glueing. I scuffed the bottom. Layed down some making tape along the hull where the rails would be glued (for neatness) and glued everything down. I pull the masking tape up once the glue started to set and pulled the nails and wooden spacer once the glue is cured. I then ran a bead of epoxy down each side of the stringer/hull joint and to complete the job, I got some 2" fiberglass tape and glassed in the stringers at the joint.Attached FilesMike Chirillo
