    Bad signal???

    Hey, Guys.

Lately my Rutter servo is freaking out. Its got "the shakes".
The radio I'm using is a Futaba Magnum 2PL.
I am using the UL1 motor, and ESC. It has a bec so i don't run an external power supply for the radio. Should I???
Are The 2.4 radios better? or if someone could suggest a good radio, thats not to $$$.
I never had a problem with this behavior with nitro, so i assume its some kind of interference with other electronics.
The receiver is in the back of the boat (JAE). their is nothing to close to it except the servo. All the wires are straight with no kinks.
If i want to eliminate the BEC, What do I do?

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks.

    Steve.

AM radios are notorious for interference in FE boats - you really should replace yours. The Tactic 2.4 from AquaCraft is perfect and these are occasionally for sale in as new condition on OSE. The ProBoat 2.4 RTR radio is probably as good and these should start showing up as guys upgrade their Miss Geicos.

Eliminating the BEC may help with your current radio. I believe you can pull the red wire out of the plug on the ESC harness, then plug a receiver battery into an unused receiver socket. Easy enough to try.

I had a servo do this a couple years ago. It turned out it was due to water ingress. Swapped the servo and it was fine. Good Luck!

I had this problem in the exact boat. In the middle of a run I went to turn and she kept going straight. The servo died and needed to be replaced. It wasn't wet or had any corrosion upon inspection so I don't really know what caused it. It was a tactic tx/rx and servo.

Are your batteries charged or run down when this happens? This has happened to me when my lipo's were low.

            No.
            My batteries were good.
            I think i need a better radio.
Their are some power lines that run pretty close to our pond. This could be the culprit.

Any large aluminum objects nearby? Like boat hoists? docks? They used to drive my AM's nuts.

                Nothing like that.
The more i think about it, the more i think its those pesky hydrolines.

Have you tried plugging in another servo and see if the problem goes away?

I don't have any issues here at the house, which leads me to believe that its the hydro lines, or my brothers radio... he was their with his boat when this issue started.

                    Thanks for the help guys.

                    Steve.

Don't spend money on ANOTHER radio! I was in the same spot as you are at one point. I got a new Futaba Futaba 3PM 3-Channel FM radio and it had glitching. I even tried it with the HRS/PPM mode and that made no difference. I did not want to spend more money on another 2.4GHz radio. I got the ASSAN module and I use it in all my RC applications, boats, cars, and airplanes.

With this module and you can keep your 2PL (which is already a great radio) and make it 2.4GHZ capable. It's easy to install. You will end up with keeping your radio, have a 10 model memory with digital trims! Best part is extra receivers are $19.00 and smaller than anything else on the market. I use it and it's awesome, it's hard to beat, inexpensive, solid as a rock with out of sight range and no glitching.

                      Hope that helps.

                      Peace.

Here is how you would do the ASSAN install but in this video they are using the Corona brand, which unlike the ASSAN, has QC issues.

                        Enjoy!
