    Replacing shaft on small inrunners?

I'm looking at the feasibility of replacing the shaft in a 2040 inrunner, since the motor I JUST bought sheared off at the bearing under no load, at about 1/8th throttle, and it's not worth getting warrantied since the shipping is almost as much as the motor itself. Thank you hobbypartz.com for requiring me to pay for shipping on a warranty return on a clearly defective motor

I've seen lots of details on how to get the shaft/magnet out, what I need to do is get the actual shaft out of the magnet as well and replace that.

Crazy? Feasible? Anyone have any idea how hard it might be?

I would not mess with it personally. For the price, get a new one. You won't be able to find a new 2040 shaft. If you do let me know where!

Heck, 2040 motors are hard to find as is as they are not as popular as the larger ones. A good 2040 is the 2040 Ammo's and the 2040 ones from hobbypartz Tacon and the Elite series. I run these with great results.

The Tacon from hobbypartz is the one that broke, 2040 3600kv. Their service sucks, I couldn't even hear the guy on the phone, and he just hung up after emailing me the RMA form. At this point I have to pay to return the defective motor to them, even though it was out of the package for all of 5 minutes before it sheared off.

I know exactly what you are saying. I have 4 of them from hobbypartz and no issues. I have a 3600 and the 3700kv and no issues, so far. Not sure what happened with yours. Do an RMA and make them pay for the shipping or use the USPS can't cost that much as it's such a small motor.

If you want to try something different try the Electrifly AMMO GPMG5140 20-40, it's 3500kv and well made. It's shaft is 2mm though not slotted like that the Tacon is which may be where your broke? What I do with all these 2040 motors is add a stainless steel sleeve to build up the shaft. I use a 3.19mm OD with a 2.1MM ID sleeve and use 638 Loctite to bond it in place, has not failed yet.

        Hope that helps.

^^ Funny you mention the sleeve... I have an aluminum one ready to go on it, I was going to put it on with some epoxy after I spun the motor up.
