I know how the faster bug bites.
I have a big 4S should be 6S Rigger that I have close to 70mph and that cost me a fortune in packs and speedies to do so. It is now on the shelf and may not ever get wet again.
I also have a 34"cat that is now on 5S with twin heli motors and as soon as I get that tuned right it may hit the shelf too. Speedies and packs for that size boat are a bear.

I have the little guys for real fun and they range from 24"down to 18". Two riggers, one Cat and one Canard. These are easy to run and the electrics do not cost a days pay each time a component fails.

Yes, FE is an illness and only you can diagnose yourself as having it.

I have it and am pushing the samller hulls to way beyond sensible speeds. It is cheap with the small ones though.
    See it....find the photos.....sketch it it....build it........with wood

Describes me perfectly, except there's no winter in CA so I'm hooked year 'round.
I try to stay between 28"-33" on 4S & keep tuning until each boat does 6 laps on the 1/6 mile course ( except for offshore; 4 1/2 min runs.) Don't even ask me about heli's- I have to fly one or two packs at sunup every morning just to get my head going

I traded a previous "problem" for r/c boats, and since then I haven't once heard my two least favorite words : "All Rise"

Its funny I think most of us FE Boaters started out with cars/Heli's/planes or somthing else thinking that boat's would be cheaper.................

              No 1 rule - - - fast = big budget!!!!!!

              Enough is Never Enough!!!!!!

              Just my 2 Cents worth...........

Put another way : " When the Flag (timer) drops, the B.S. stops"
One thing racing has done for me is that it teaces the importance of proper setup - It's not too hard to rig a ZSP {Zoom-Splash-Plop } , but perfecting a setup that can stay shiny-side up for six laps in racewater has been quite a learning experience for me.

I just stopped counting. It was easier to feel good about it then :)

I have a 1/5scale TT rc motorcycle and a Venom 1/8scale bike that get neglected due to the boats.

Speed isn't my first concern as i run oval racing in a club. I like to keep them cool running and riding on rails. Don;t get me wrong, I have 50mph+ boats. I like speed and i'm a Catamaran Junkie!!

Damn you Proboat!!!!! damn Miss Geico.... UUUUGH!!!

This is a funny post because I have wondered the same thing. I started my blackjack project at 60mph and was happy for a few minutes. I then wanted 70. After I broke seventy I was thinking about 80 since it's only 4mph away. At some point I have learned that fun speed turns into stress at some point. Running the MG at mid thirties is relaxing and I think I actually heard Beethoven when I was running it tonight..

Far as FE I feel that size does matter - the smaller the better. cheaper and faster
