    Graupner Z-Drive

Yo fellas. I was wondering if any of you guys have ever used the z-drive for a scale looking buildup. I got saleens OM21 hull from him. I have all the glue and stuffing tube out. It's stripped and the hulls in nice shape, minimal finishing required. The glue used just peels right off the ABS so it was a quick and clean tear down. Just needs degreasing and some build time!

Anyway. I have always like the merc/OMC style I/O units. This hull looks like it might work fine for that. I know about the in-efficiencies with the I/O unit, but I like the looks and I wanna make a boat out of it! I plan to use a SV27 BL motor and 2s and 4s packs depending on what works best.

Any input before I PM steven to ask him when he can get me a Z-drive? (out of stock at the moment)

About the hull and the z-drive. I do not know how big it is, he lists no specs. I cannot seem to find any either. I took some pics of the hull, and some with a ruler if anyone has some info on this too it would be nice. Thanks!

I have already looked into the smaller Z for a brushless boat. Steven advised me it wil not hold up to a Bl app. The bigger drive will.

I was afradid of that. But, the thing is the smaller 80 dollar z-drive is about what some hardware is gonna cost....and I like the z-drive and I have a PB brushed ESC that would work fine.

Anyone have any dimensions on the larger 800 size z-drive? Will standard 36mm brushless motors mount up to it?

      Thanks Tom!

You can run a 5mm shaft into the big drive. I am pretty sure you can run a 36mm can also.

Ocean, it's a steerable inboard/outboard unit. There is a servo inside of the boat that turns the oudrive for you. it is the rudder.

the 600 graupner unit only has a 2.3mm cable. u might be able to switch it to a wire to handle the power better. the 800 series motors have 32mm between the screws so u may need to make an adapter to fit the smaller 550 can screw placement.

Thank the Euro for that! These would be in the low $100 range if the Euro wasn't 45% stronger than the Us Dollar!!

There was no offence taken. I completely understand.

This currency exchange rate is a thorn under my/our side. There is a ton of stuff I would love to import but the exchange rate is so bad it makes lots of the stuff but way to much money.
