Hello, I'm new to this forum, looks like there's alot of good information here! I've been around cars and planes, but new to boats. Looks like a whole nother world! Can anyone Identify this boat? And have any recomendations to power it? It has an old hobby shack tag on it. It's fiberglass and about 34" long. I'm going to give it a nice flame paint job and would like it to look as scale as possible. I was thinking brushless ep1 for the fact looking scale. But I'm worried about reliabilty putting it behind a heavy boat like that. Any sugestions?
Identify this boat?

It is very similar to the lapcat but not the same I don't think. The hatch is different and the transom isn't inset.Mini Cat Racing USA

It is clearly not the same hull; as sailr stated the transom is different, plus the hatch opening, the sponson shapes and the shape of the nose and cockpit are all much different. There were a lot of similar-looking OB tunnels made by small hull makers on the market in the 1970s and 1980s, this is probably one of those.

I'm sure te AQ EP-1 will not push a 34 inch Tunnel. You'll need a much better lower unit and a larger motor then can be ran in the EP-1 to get her on plane and up to a good speed.Comment

I agree it's definately an old hull. I'm guessing '80's. It has never been use though. not a hole in it anywhere. I'm going to make a canopy out of fiberglass because the original is missing. I'm looking forward to it being a good project for me. I've got some 5s lipo's I want to use, just need to find the right motor and esc.Comment

In order to push that hull to a decent speed, you will need a motor that will shred the brass bevel gears in an EP1.............been there..................and good luck finding replacements, i think i have the last two on earth.NEED PARALLEL CONNECTORS?? I don't know why outboards are so rare. Seems like there would be a huge market for some good strong scale outboards.Comment

Graupner and now Proboat have ready to run brushless outboard motors. The proboat unit looks really good although I haven't had the pleasure of examining one yet.Mini Cat Racing USA

both of those do look pretty nice! From what you guys are saying I should go with a cable drive and not gears. I have some 5s lipos I want to use, what kind of run times do you guys normally get out of something like this?Comment

"what kind of run times do you guys normally get "
It would basically be a wild guess with unkown variables such as chosen motor kv, prop size, mah and "C" rating of batteries etc...............NEED PARALLEL CONNECTORS?? QUALITY 5.5MM, 8MM, 8 AND 10 AWG, GET THEM HERE:http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...est!&highlight=
