ESC question: Will a ESC not 'arm' if a motor is bad?

I have a Seaking 120A in my SV and trying to figure out if it's bad now. It shows no signs of frying or anything and it's sat since my Feigao motor gave out on me.

So, I tried hooking it up to my stock SV motor and when I plugged the batteries in, I get no beeps, nothing. Not even the little spark when you plug the Lipos in.

So, I hooked the stock SV motor up to the stock SC and it appears that motor is bad; it just makes a screeching sound and barely turns.

Will ESC's 'protect' themselves and go into a bypass mode, or is it bad?
32" Toysport Triton, stepped hull, no flood chamber, 1515 1.5y NEU 1500kv motor, 180a Turnigy SC - running 6S, Aquacraft SV27 - currently running UL1 motor on 4S. Boat has seen 59mph running Feigao 11XL on 6S, 17" Velocity Minicat

No there is a good chance you smoked the esc.... and stop hooking that motor up to other esc's or those are gonna fry too... sounds like the seaking got taken out by the fiego... it happens.... just be happy it wasn't a super expensive esc..... Hopefully the sv esc is ok..... if you ever think you smoked a motor in the future stop giving the boat throttle as you may have been able to save the esc if you hadn't kept trying to pull the throttle... I took out a fancey jeti esc a while back doing the same thing... pulling the trigger while the motor was doing its squelling until finally it just gave it up....

I have had the cheap mystery esc's not arm once when it saw an open lead from the motor. Plugged it in, the BEC worked, but no beeps or anything.... silence.... Ended up being two of the motor leads were not connected.

So, if a motor burns open, I would think an ESC might not arm or make any noise, but that is a rather limited experience. maybe someone else may weigh in on what I experienced.

Oh, plugged the motor back in and it worked fine and beeped
