    1/8th Scale Power Combination

Very shortly, I will have my Circus Circus frame kit. In preperation for the build, I am looking into the powerplant. There are a number of options out there and wanted to see what the forum members recommend. Hopefully, this thread will help others who are looking into building one of the kits from Mike.

This hull will be for sport running so I am looking for some of the less expensive options. Here are the options that I have seen in different threads:

    1- KB45 800kv, Etti 200 Navy, 10s 30C Zippy Flightmax

    2- Feigao 580 12L, Etti 200 Navy, 8s

    3- Scorpion 4035 800kv, Turnigy 2000, 8s or 10s

    4- Leopard 5682 3Y 910kv, Turnigy 2000, 8s

    5- Feigao 580 12L, Etti 150 Navy or Turnigy Marine 180, 6s

    6- Little Screamers 63mm Outrunner, Turnigy 2000, 10s

    7- Leopard 5692 1090kv, Turnigy 2000, 8s

    8- Leopard 5692 1090kv, Swordfish 240hv, 8s

I have been in and out of the hobby for the past few years so I am trying to catch up with the calculations on kv's, cells, etc.

Any help or advice is appreciated.

I'd put a Scorpion 4035/800kv motor in her, with a hv esc of at least 180 amps.... I am using a turnigy 2000 with a 44" aeromarine Team America cat (converted FE) and having good results (57mph on 10s)..... I've hear from K.R joye that others in the 1/8 scale boats are using combos like this and getting good "sport" results on both 8s and 10s....

Oh and your etti navy race is only good up to 7s I believe... and I wouldn't run past 6s if I was you ....

Believe it or not this 1/8 is powered by a cheap kb45 on 10s, boat weighs 18lbs

Yeah, that is the video I saw that got me thinking about a sport setup. Instead of the KB45, I would use the 580L.

          You'd want the Feigao 12L for 8s..............

The 3Y in this fat leopard would be nice too on 8s - http://www.leopard-model.com/product...ionID=01020202

Thanks for the replies. So the combinations that may work are:

            1- KB45 800kv, Etti 200 Navy, 10s 30C Zippy Flightmax

            2- Feigao 580 12L, Etti 200 Navy, 8s

            3- Scorpion 4035 800kv, Turnigy 2000, 8s or 10s

            4- Leopard 5682 3Y 910kv, Turnigy 2000, 8s

            5- Feigao 580 ?L, Etti 150 Navy or Turnigy Marine 180, 6s

            6- Little Screamers 63mm Outrunner, Turnigy 2000, 10s

            7- Leopard 5692 1090kv, Turnigy 2000, 8s

            8- Leopard 5692 1090kv, Swordfish 240hv, 8s

So from what I gather, I would need an esc of at least 180amps to run 8s (which is a the pretty common cell count for electric scale hydros). Of course, at that point the cost rises quite a bit. I do understand "you get what you pay for."

Again, thanks for any input you can provide.

You might want to add the Leopard 5692 to the list. I have one in the 1090KV wind that I am going to use on 8S in an 1/8th scale hydro. Still waiting for the water jackets to arrive at OSE and then to fabricate a motor mount! The motor itself is pretty impressive.

I'd use the turnigy monster 2000 esc for the little screamers motor too.... It was designed for airplane use, I have seen in the screamers thread that folks have used the monster with the screamer and it has worked well...

Rick, I would try out that 5692 Leopard. As much as I think the Little Screamers is an OK motor, its huge, and the engine well in this perticular kit is only 4.5" wide, so your fitment is tight. Do that 5692, on 8s, and probably that turnigy 2000 esc would be a good setup. Its all in how you keep the weight around 14-16lbs rtr. That is key. Also, the rest of your kit came in today. I am going to get it boxed tomorrow night. (wife is forcing me to do fantasy draft party this evening..blahhhh). I will let you know the tracking as soon as I have it! Thanks, Mike

I'm waiting for the water jacket for my 5692 to see how things are going to fit in my 1/8 scale hydro. I'm tellin ya, it's gonna be BIG in diameter. With the water jacket, I really don't think it will be any smaller than the little screamer!

You better have a dummy allison engine sticking up or something. Otherwise you're going to have to mount the motor flat and do an S curve. Some people swear by S curves and some people say it eats flex shafts. Not sure what to think. At least my boat is Vintage and I will have the dummy Allison engine so hopefully it will hide the motor. My big concern now is how to do a subhatch with all that motor sticking up.

The leopard 3y is 910kv BTW............perfect for 8s.........and a little less heft than the 5692.

Hahaha. Now THAT would be plenty of power. Kind of like the the Frank Kenney Toyota from 1987 with their Turbocharged Griffon (it had THREE turbos).
