    New Guy...need a little help...Miss Geico

    Hello there.......

I have just taken the step and ordered the Proboat "Miss Geico", with that being said this is my first try at boats....period. I have been an avid RC dude, but never boats. I know the standard req's for batteries are 2-7.2V NiMH sub-C or 7.4 LiPo+20C. Can some of you with all your knowledge shed some light on some good batt's to buy that will not ruin me in the bank and get my wife more pissed at me but get me some descent performance. I don't need to go too fast! Yet.....

    In advance..................thanks for your help

This is a good buy and a good battery for your boat. This is what I would buy.

You will not find a better price. Many members on this site use Turnigy batteries and generally they are good. Look around that site and you will find lots of other options...

I use those batts, they rock

*Make sure you check voltage on arrival, some buyers have had packs DOA. I myself have burned through 2 HK packs, 1 a zippy & other was a turnigy. The turnigy quit holding a charge and would never balance and the zippy puffed a cell. The zippy was a 5000mah 30 2s pack and the turnigy was a 4000mah 2s 40c pack. Just added info. Buy more than just 2, it will save on shipping in the long run. Don't buy 2 packs now and 2 more in like a month, buy them all now. I am not trying to scare you just with everything for a good price their is a trade off and HK packs are GREAT, but their GOOD and well worth the price. I think I have about 12-14 packs from HK for boats and planes and only 2 failed on me. *

Check out Kintec racing as he does stock some Hk lipos. Why pay all that extra shipping when KR is State side?

Yes I have experienced failures as listed in detail in my above statement. But even with 2 failures I will still buy them, y because you get what you pay for. The risk of a cell coming bad is always possible but with the 12+ packs I have that are running awesome it is worth the gamble. 12+ packs in a higher quality, TP, hyperion ect would cost way more then I want to spend. I am a recreational boater so I cut cost where I can. I try and buy a few at a time for shipping and if 1 comes DOA I still can operate. What I should start doing is tearing down the pack and saving the good cells, but I don't know if I want to go that route just yet. Luckly I havent needed batts for a good while.

Check out Rclipos, Pat is a great guy to deal with. and/or email or pm Sailr - a member here on OSE, he runs Minicatracing. And offers a deal on hyperion lipos for members of OSE. Lots of choices.

Back to dude's question,,,lipos are far better than nihm's,,lighter in wate, smaller in size,,amd can hold a charger better but like any battery can blowup!!!!I agree with everyone here go with lipos my Miss Elam ran ok from factory i removed the two nihms and replaced them with two equal sized lipos and she flew then just replaced the prop and now she runs 41mph,,,, PS lipos are cheaper, my nihms cost around 56.00 each and my HK Turnigy lipos cost like 19.99 each big difference...

Thanks for all the replies...fellas, I just want to make sure that I am not going to screw anything up on the miss geico from the gate....I have been reading quite a bit on LiPO batteries trying to get "EDUMACATED" on them. It's a little much to chew on at first but I'll get there......

                      Thank you

Whatever you buy, make sure its a lipo. Nimh is quickly becoming a thing of the past, and you'll end up getting lipo anyway after you catch the "speed bug".

I've coverted my son's Proboat Fastech (has same motor and I think ESC as Geico) to Lipos and have never looked back. In addition to higher voltage, the weight difference between these batteries is huge...

If you are new to lipos, check out the "battery" subforum here for some background. You should take some precautions when charging and storing these-- I charge them in a lipo bag in the fireplace, and I store them in an ammo box with the gasket seal removed (also in the fireplace) so they can vent safely just in case... I have read a few posts about people burning down their houses...
