Suggest a Motor for a Boat

I am buying a couple of these boats and so is a friend so we can race with our sons. These boats have two things that make them perfect. They are cheap, and they self-right. Great for a 5 year old who can drive pretty good.

Here is the link to the boat:

The boat is 22.5 inches long mono.

I would like to see speeds in the low thirties. If there is a way to accomplish this running 2s that would be ideal. Please suggest a very inexpensive motor that we can also get a cooling jacket for.

    Thanks...

I run a H&M No Step (vid in signature), that is very similar in size to that boat just built a little better run. I ul-1 power and it screams. For a cheap set up I guess on 2s This may work , but I think it maybe to small. This could also work, but is more of a 3s motor. Last HK option is this

Over all I think a Feigao 6L or 7L would suit your 2s needs http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...i-540L&cat=116, just prop wisely.

We run the 7L motors in our 2S Sport Hydros with an m440 prop, works great in the mid-40s. Running an x438 on the same motor may work in the mono, but the speed will be pretty high for such a small boat - especially for kids.

Those small narrow boats need a small diameter prop to keep from having torque issues...40mm or less, IME 32-35 mm props work better. That means an 1/8" prop stub shaft and prop.

A 380-400 sized motor might work too, but I like the larger cans as they can handle heat a lot better.

Their you go 2 votes for a 7L.

On my H&M mono I run a x440 2 blade version which is pretty good. Anything larger than 40mm would not be good, prop walk & torque roll would be to much. A x438 may work a little better for me (have to order 1). So with that being said prop wisely and you should be fine. Happy boating :)

          Ok,
Keeping in mind I will be setting up two boats and my friend will do the same. I figured I can chance it and buy this:
          http://hobbycity.com/hobbyking/store...t_Name=2848SL_3900kv_Brushless_Inrunner_(WaterCooled)

This motor costs 37 dollars WITH a water jacket. Any other alternates at that same price point give or take few bucks?

I think that motor will work but I cannot vouch for the quality. You will need to set the boat up for 1/8" props though. An Octura x431, x432 or x435 will get those boats moving.

I know you want to save money and cut the cost, im all for that, but if something happens like the motor is not up to the task which it may not be your screwed with 4 motors that arent't handling the job. If it breaks you have NO SUPPORT from HK on those, and if they do refund, return cost are crazy. At least if you order from OSE you have support and those 7L motors have been VERIFIED by one of the fastest racers on this site (fluid) to work. For a few extra bucks piece of mine and I would without a doubt imagine better performance and more reliable. JMO opinon of course.

I agree with what you are saying, ask "Fluid", my main two boats are running Neu motors etc. If the Feigeo's were closer to the number I would be game, but with a water jacket we are looking at 74.00 dollars a boat vs. 37.00, or in my case $74.00 vs $148 bucks(2 boats). I know it is apples to oranges also since they are different motors. The review on the website for the motor in question have been favorable. Suppose it's just a calculated risk. I will think it over.

OK, next question how many amps on the esc? I am guessing that 60amp would be the minimum and maybe 100amp would be much better. By the way it looks like we will go with the 7l motor so long as we can get the coolling jacket for it.

According to the motor chart, it can max at 88amps, but under load it may spike more than that especially if not properly propped. I would suggest a seaking or swordfish 120. I would personnally use nothing less than 120amp speedo JMO. Make sure your batts can supply the propper amount of constant amps so you don't puff a pack.

You can order the feigao motor & swordfish 120amp esc here at OSE. Get the programming box/card/usb programmer for the esc (one of them), don't try to program threw the TX. Your just asking for problems.

This would work in a 22" hull, these items are all in stock now and should get you real close to 30.
