Do the rules fit what's best for today

I see thread after thread of people blowing up 180-240 amp controllers. Are the rules causing this? Power = Voltage x Amps Increase the voltage and downsize the prop and you get less amps but more RPM. Should 4S classes be changed to 5S ect?

    thanks,
    Steve

Nope. You can blow up equipment with poor setups no matter what you're using.

      Hi Steve,
I haven't seen too many racers posting about burning up equipment, at least latey.
I do have a problem with allowing any ESC in the "limited" classes because I know that it has promoted abuse (failures), and will make the RTRs out there obsolete. There will allways be guys that push set ups too hard, or run poor setups that burn equipment up.
Oh well, it is what it is.

I agree with Andy. As a whole I think the two orgs. have pretty good rule sets.

      Just my opinion FWIW

This has been spoken about before. Racers will push things to their limits.

My two sons burnt up two brushless stock motors in the last heat. Not the motors fault. It was that I set the boats up so tight that an extra penalty lap on both of them in the last heat caused .

Something like this is possible, but not fun in my opinion.

        F5D Limiter

        F5D version:
        •4-5S lithium
        •200 amps max current
        •optical isolation
•1000 watt-minutes motor shutdown pre set
        •LED indicators show status
        •6 mm connectors for power
•20 grams including wires and sensor
•Motor power restored after 10 sec pause

The F5D limiters had LOTS of complaints at the Nats a few weeks ago. After hearing what they were going through, I stand by my statement from years ago that they are NOT something we want in model boats.

I run all my UL setups on the UL speedo. The combination of Castle and the UL just never works for me.

At the nats I broke 2 speedo due to impact (at least I think that was it) and a third was wet. Too wet. I haven't over amped one in ages.

How many people do you think are actually "following the rules"?

                Agreed

Most of them. Especially if you win. The boats are checked right after for specs.

Your right Steve, I was talking about the general "FE" boater... I would guess that less than 15% of the boaters that particapate on this board actually race at a sanctioned IMPBA or NAMBA event. Even at those, the rules are a gentlemen's agreement for the spec/limited classes.
