hello from a new px1 hull owner

hello i have just been given a graupner px-1 hull (given to me by my uncle) should have it by next week

i know from when my uncle brought this it had plans for a twin motor setup

as far as boats are concerned im a compleate beginner i know diddly squat about building them

i do have some knowladge about rc stuff as i used to race 1/8 nitro rallycross buggys

what i want to know is can it be built as a single engine setup and as i have a spare hyper7 buggy lying around can i use the 2 channel radio gear from this also would it be possible to use the .21 nitro engine in this hull or will the engine be too small ??

i have a high torque servo i think it has 14.kg of torque would this be sutable for the rudder servo

my plan is if i cant use the nitro engine then i will get a single motor electric set up for it and use the radio gear and servo i allready have ...

so what set up would you recomend for this hull ie: motor esc etc
i plan on using this hull for fun but fast !! running and maybe go to a few meets if any in my area ..

Dude...before you start bashing the members here, I would suggest you give us more info on this PX hull of yours. How big is it? what are the dims? Pics to go along with what you're yapping about. You have given us nothing to help you out other than your ramblings and bashing. Now we gotta waste our time searching this hull so we can tell you what to do with it.

We're talking a 44" cat with a 12" beam fiberglass hull. Other than the radio do you have any lipos on hand? Do you have a budget to go along with this build? I would recommend as this is your first build to do a single drive. But we need a budget.

seems kinda big for a first build, id store it and look for a bj26 and make sure i was serious before i spent 1000$+

Put 2 graupner 820 outboards on the back my friend has 2 of these boats one with twin 820 outboards. And a triple outboard using sv power. BTW with twin 820 these boats rip !!

i kinda like the idea of twin outboard motors !!!!

and yeah it is a big hull but when my uncle offered it to me i kinda couldnt say no its agreat looking hull

as for budget i dont know what i can say i plan on buying the parts each month etc so dont really have a set budget but i wouldnt want to spend money on the best and most expencive stuff as its my first build and if i mess it up its gonna be a costly mess lol

one the single motor route i was looking at some hardware rudder prop shaft all in one set that was about £45.99 and the motor was a 540 xl 8 ? that was about £45.99 also if that gives u the sort of idea of my budget ?

i want this to be a winter project that i will compleate over a few months etc
so im not rushing it i want to take my time and get it right

had a look at the twin 820 outboard motor option at nearly £400 for both that a bit too much for me to think about just for motors also i did a search for sv power but couldnt find anything does anyone have a link ??

You could use 2 hyperperformance units with dual aquacraft supervee 27 motor and esc.

I think the small cans of the BJ or the SV are not a good suit for the 42" cat... there is not enough mass by a long shot... you'll find that over amping and over heating will be an issue.
If you are using dual drives, perhaps a 40mm motor at least and a big honker (42mm+) for a single drive... maybe to keep the cost a bit lower, try an outrunner(s), if it fits properly.
at 4lbs bare and about 42" long this is a big hull, we are talking adding batteries, escs, motors and perhaps even outboards.

If that sounds a bit rough then I can polish it up later.

For a self confessed beginner I would suggest something a lot smaller but with provision to upgrade and learn the sport/hobby with.

Suggestions include a BJ26, or a fitted out HOTR type cat.
Have a surf about in the swap shop section and see what is going or even post a WTB ad in there.

For a beginner I know that some of the words, leters and acronyms here can be a bit daunting at first but a lot of reading and some clever searching and a lot more reading, did I mention the reading bit, will get you a long way here.

Most of the folk here are very helpful and wnat to encourage new people into the sport/hobby.
