    Silicone or Aluminium Cooler

just a quick question about motor cooling.

i just fitted a leopard 4074 motor and it came with a basic silicone cooling jacket.

would there be any benefit in fitting an Aluminium jacket.

does one work better than the other ???

Yes. Virtually every silicon jacket I've seen on a boat (and I've seen dozens) will leak. Maybe not today or tomorrow, but it will. Many have to be sealed with caulk, but the silicon jacket will eventually break or crack. Plus the aluminum jackets will dissipate heat a bit better and have more water contact with the motor can.

Do yourself a favor and get a quality aluminum jacket for your motor. It could literally save you hundreds of dollars.

I agree with Fluid. I had it happen yesterday, with the EXACT same motor. Get the aluminum jacekt. Plus, there is more water in contact with the motor when using the aluminum jacket wheras with the silicon, there are only a few channels for the water to flow.
