    BJ26 plastic hardware strength

Hey guys, I just bought a motor esc combo that I plan on running in a bit larger boat, but for now I have a BJ26 hull/hardware sitting here thats begging to get on the water. My question is to those who have ran and upgraded this boat, what happens to this plastic steerable drive when you put lots of power to it?

I'm overpowering this boat and putting lots of battery weight in it...im just wondering how much this stock hardware is going to limit me...

Stock it is no good. The u-joint seems to be the main problem over time. After several runs it will break and leave you dead in the water. A fixed strut with an inline rudder like Steven sells on here seems to be the way to go. Offset rudder works also, but I think the inline handles a little better.

Another option is to replace the ujoint with a piece of flex cable. If you have a lathe, it is easy. Just cut the two solid shafts off where the U-joints end and bore them for the size of cable. Glue with sleeve retainer.

Fullers makes a great hardware system. Installed removed battery trays and a 642 prop. Run in the low 40s all day long. Stock Outdrive is very week.
