    motor = lipo combo

    Hi guys!

    I've recently got a Feigao 540 - 12L motor and a Turnigy 6s / 5000mAh / 20 - 30C. Is it ok to pair them in a hydro hull measuring almost 40"? I've also got a Towerpro 100A esc. Still needing to decide what kind of propeller I should fit... Anyway, thanks for any / all help, greatly appreciated.

    You are guaranteed to burn that combo up in under a minute of WOT - don't try it! That's not nearly enough motor, ESC or pack for that hull. Depending on what speed you are looking for, at least a Feigao 580/10L motor, 150 amp ESC and 30C discharge cells will be required. The combo you have is inappropriate for any reasonable sport use, even in a 30" hull. The motor Kv is 'way too high at 2159 rpm/volt.

      Thats almost 48,000 rpm. Even on 4s that motor can is too small for that big of a hull. Your motor is more suited for a hull in the 25-30 inch range on 4s.

        Well, in the data sheet, it says that it can pull up to 50k rpm with water cooling (which is already installed)... And that's under no load. I don't think it can reach more than 30 - 35k rpm in water.

          Go for it then!! In all seriousness though, like fluid said, it would prob last under 1 minute. Motor is too small, kv is way too high for 6s.

            I will settle then for 3s / 4000 with a 1.4" propeller. That sounds better?

              Problem is you're motor will burn up because its trying to reach that rpm and can't. Unless you're esc burns up first because its pulling way over its maximum amp-capacity. Matching motor/esc/hull/prop size is tricky.

                We are telling you that the motor you have is 'way too small for that size hull. If you do not want to listen to us then don't waste your time on this forum. If you want to learn how to build a reliable boat that works instead of sitting broken on your shelf, then we are more than willing to help you learn how to do it.

                It may be hard for you to accept, but we know a lot more about FE boats than you do.

                  Nitro, listen to Fluid. He does know his stuff. He has helped me out alot but you need to be open to learning, unless you have an endless supply of money and are practicing to be a fire-fighter.

                    Sorry guys, didn't mean to be disrespectful, problem is that I only have this motor and the 2 lipo packs, not enough money to spend on another motor / hull at the moment I will save some money for a motor if you could kindly suggest one. Thank you for your help so far!

                    PS. The hull I've got is the Atlas van Lines homemade from plywood reinforced with fiberglass.

                      ... I might have a 10XL available, if that is closer to what is needed.

                          I managed to change the 12L with a 10XL thanks to CornelP (I owe you a six-pack!!!), less kv (~1700), more torque. Next on my shopping list is this: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...hless_Boat_ESC
