Prop nuts

the Q has come up. the standard 5-40 lock nut is 0.25" across the flats which means the points over hang the prop hub a bit.
Question
does this make any difference to you the boater? or would you buy them anyway just avoid losing the prop?
I know what my choice is, am looking to see what the rest of you think. thank you.

I just take to grinder and grind the points off to where i can grab with a pliers to tighten and then use a small water line hose after the nut is on and one hose piece between coupler and stuffing tube so as not to loose the flex and prop.
