Toysport Jolly Owners - Step in

    Hey guys,

I've been doing some reading up no the Toysport Jolly cats. I'm interested in a twin cat build in the future, and have found there don't seem to be a lot of quality cat options available in the US. Let me start by saying looks are a big deal for me. I'm not a racer, just a sport runner, so I'm set on a select few hulls I've seen. I LOVE the HPR hulls, but doing business over seas with someone I can't translate kind of scares me. I'd hate to drop that kind of cash and have my order come in wrong because something was lost in translation. I'm also a fan of the MHZ mystic hulls, but it seems the US dealer (FDM), is not a place you want to make a transaction with.

My question for you guys running the Jolly, is how many of you have issues with the hull bouncing? I did read about the added "wedge" to the hull, and it helping.. But so far, all the vids I've found of the hull running it seems to be bouncing around. So, is it a setup issue, or is this a characteristic of the hull? Who has one that doesn't bounce like that? Also, please let me know if it is a single or twin you are running.

    Thanks,
    John

PS - I'm also open to any other cat suggestions (QUALITY HULLS PLEASE!), that look similar to the hpr / mhz / TS.

I thought I had read MHZ's US dealer was not so great to deal with, but maybe I'm confusing that dealer and Fine design?? I do prefer the looks of the mystic over the toysport......

So does MHZ USA have a good rep??

      Thanks,
      John

Can't say for myself, but I've heard no bad comments.

All I remember hearing negative was that his pricing was perceived as high by a few. I bought a hull from him about 5 years ago and at least at that time the transaction went very well. You can try a search, here is all I found that has any bearing.

I've been doing some searching trying to dig up any dirt! Lol I absolutely love the looks of the mystic hulls, but for some reason was under the impression MHz USA was to be avoided. Thanks for the info Jay. I still need to pm your buddy.

I bought a triton about 4 years ago, a well built hull. I also have an MHZ hull, also well built. The hull quality on both these manufacturers is very good.

Thanks for the info Douggie. I've read many posts (including your's) about how nice the toysport hulls are. My concern with those is not the quality, more so the bouncing that seems to plague all the jolly cats. Just wondering if the wedge resolved that for all those who have installed it. Or reviews from those that bought the updated version with the wedge preinstalled would work.

I run a twin Jolly and love it! It is a narrower hull so I'm hesitant to run WO into the turns, alright afraid maybe --- lots invested!

I sport run and in the mid to low 40's --- when I first got it, it did porpoise. I contacted Joseph Toth and he was kind enough to send me a wedge. After install, it smoothed right out & goes!

I'm running 8xls's, Etti 150's with cap banks installed, 4S to each side and L & R x442's and am pleased with it!

No video of it running but I think I have at least 1 more picture of it in my gallery here!

With a broken right wrist my running this summer has been greatly curtailed!

Thanks eodman, I actually read your thread when researching these. Was hoping you would add your two cents. Is the hull smooth at part throttle / lower speeds also? I'd really love to see a vid of one running with the wedge.

Yes it is smooth at slower speeds also! And there is nothing like the sound of twins running wide open!

Almost as good as a big Merc outboard running full song!

Well that's great to hear. I'm hoping for more replies like yours! Get more pics from different angles if you can. I'd like to see more of this hull.

Ive had my twin JollyCat a few months now (From OSE) thanx Steve for getting it to OZ without a scatch - Setup 2x Feiago 540 10L's - 2x Himodel 200a ESC (watercooled) - L/R 440props - GPS'd a few times looking for purfect conditions (77km) Yes got quicker once the wedge was installed no bouncing at all, but then again it didnt bounce that much before... Love the Twin JollyCat

Although I don't have a Jolly, I have dealt with MHZ USA - not the same as Fine Design. I have had pretty good interactions, other than the items I select and buy are actually not only out of stock but no longer in production. They are good about refunds and replying relatively quickly. Absolutely gorgeous work, I have the Shockwave-Fountain and they helped me with a hardware inquiry same day reply. I have also the Triton and it is amazing the detail to not only the deck but the hull. have yet to run it, so can't yet comment.

Main point here is I have had good dealings with MHZ.

As for the Jolly, I recall folks talking about adding a tunnel flap. I did for my Twin Intruder build and it was the solution.
