    New to boats...

Hello all, I am a complete neub when it comes to boats. I have been in the r/c industry since the mid 80's racing & crawling.

I recently had a gentleman come into my shop for vinyl decals for his Insane Hydro Gas that he races. This is what got my interests. I am an electric guy so I am thinking of a catamaran brushless. The hydros are very neat looking but strictly for oval racing correct? So, I have been looking around and I see things such as Genesis, King of Shaves Brushless, etc. I want something that I can use in my spare time along with race when need be. I also am a more scale type of guy so I want something that looks more realistic and is at least 30"

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated! Once this is figured out I will post a want ad.

    Thanks again,
    -Will

Welcome to OSE! For electric you've come to the right place. In my opinon I would wait for the Proboat Miss Geico to come out. I think it will be your best move. I own the Genesis and I would not consider it a rtr or even close to a artr. The boat was on my bench for a little less than a month before I even got it in the water. Everything was changed or modified. It has a very nice sticker price. ( i paid $219 not including shipping for hobbycity.com), but took some coin to get it close to right and I have only run it once so far. The KOS is a POS, JMHO. I would try and stay clear of that boat until vemon get their act together. It's got a big $$$ tag and you will have to add more $$$ to get it to run even close to right. The Geico comes with a motor and esc that has been proven to run great and is one of the best motor/esc packages to come with a RTR boat. It has the scale look you want, 30" on the dot and comes with 2.4 radio. Slap a new prop and your ready to go. It's not out yet so you may have to wait a little bit. http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...#quickOverview

You could also go with something like this and experience the enjoyment of adding all the goods yourself............

Ya, I did see the Mrs. Geico setup but also heard it keeps getting pushed back. I am in no rush to order so... Is there a class for these to race in NAMBA? I am not so much worried about the paint/graphics on the boat as I plan to wrap it with my own design.

A lot of these boats look the same - are they re-badged maybe with different electrics?

The best way is to buy a reputable hull and put in your own goodies and cheaper in the long run.. .the mean machine is a great candidate and there are many who will help you with your build.

Another vote for the new miss geicko. Proven proboat electronics. Wide stable hull. Scale-like appearance. I see the miss geicko being a popular choice for first-time brushless boaters. Like the supervee is for the mono. enthusiast.
