    bearings vs bushings

    wharts the story????
i use bearings but one locked solid (like a bushing)and had no
affect on the speed or the shaft.
should i just go with bushings and not have to deal
    with the bearing??????????????????
please keep it friendly....im just asking.

    sorry about the double thread.

There are a lot of thread discussing about bushings and bearings. Many prefer bushing and I totally agree with them but I was just not having good luck like them on bushings. Now all my 4 boats from 58cm to 140cm use bearings and I love them. Normal bearings do lockup every time after each run if you leave it without maintain. For me getting it dry and one tiny drop of oil don't look like a huge job. That will keep it smooth for a long time. Once really broken, they can be replaced as easy as a finger snap.

The thing that makes me love bearings is they keeps ZERO PLAY/Wobble during their whole life. That means a quieter, more efficient, and more acurate running boat. Bushings, on the contrary will run perfectly at the beginning but then...... again, that's just because of my bad luck.

      sorry about the double thread.
Personal preferance, nothing wrong with a well maintained and well built bushing setup. Myself i use all hybrid ceramic, stainless steel race, ceramic balls.

As cheap as most of the bearing are there is really no excuse as they can have them made for any spec you need, in fact the selection today is huge. Granted the occasional odd size can cost a bit. Plus bushings cannot take the same abuse a bearing setup can, nor can they achieve the rpm a bearing setup can achieve reliably. All things being equal a bushing verse a bearing in the same setup, the bushing will gall before it achieves final step rpm the bearing can handle. :)

bushings are water bearings, way better in my opinion. it makes a thin film of water between the metal, so once in the water they are almost frictionless. also way less maintenance than normal bearings

Some gurus I know use needle bearings in their struts with great success.
