This is rumor control, and here are the facts. "A radio control boat is not by definition a boat or watercraft"

    that said,

they are covered under local noise statutes and Atrractive nuisance statutes . Property that is inherently dangerous and particularly enticing to children. For example, a swimming pool has a strong attraction to children and could lead to a liability, your RC products are covered under this statute. This can be and is often argued for adults when liability is litigated. NO amount of insurance from your hobby will protect you from these statutes once litigation begins.

Check with your state and local law enforcement for activities in regards to RC operation in your area. Fish and wildlife controls the ramps only and the majority of public access ramps and 50 ft out into the water (though distance varies from state to state). State, city and local police enforce the overall lake or pond local postings on speed and noise on the pond or lake.

What i did was to get a letter from my local law enforcement on the particular lake or pond i was visiting on whether i could use it or not and what my noise level would be. I gave one example of a female troll trying to get me kicked off a lake here in Tumwater, the end result was the police escorting her back to her property, my having letter in hand.

Ensure you have the laws and statutes for your area printed and on hand and a written permission by the local police, saves all kinds of time and ensures a fun weekend or weekday.

And never ever run an rc boat in the water with swimmers present. Hope this helps.
