    Work Area Upgrade

Took a trip to the HomeDepot today. I decided it was time to expand my capabilities. I am sure this thing will be put to good use in the very near future. I just have to finish geting it put together.

        Tom,
I have the same saw...for $99.00 it is hard to beat. One thing to keep an eye out for it the fact that the blade that comes with it seems to dull VERY quickly. After not too much cutting I started having trouble cutting a straight line and looking at it I was seeing that the blade was wondering...did a little research and found that a dull blade will do this. One other thing that I did to mine is apply teflon tape to the miter slide, there was a fair amount of tollerance in the slot that the miter fit into, one layer of teflon tape helped a bunch. It is great having the right tools.

        Cheers,
        Jim

          i had that saw.
          personally it wasn't very good.
it didn't like mine at all. It would bog out cutting small aluminum and heavy wood.
I ended up throwing it out on bulk garbage pick up
          Sorry.

I use my little Craftsman BandSaw for EVERYTHING! I generally keep the very narrow "scrolling" blade on it for most things, and am just VERY careful when trying to cut long cuts straight... Use a straight-edge, etc...

I use it to cut my brass, carbon fiber, aluminum, wood,... pretty much everything, and I'm still on my first blade...

Have this, my 36x6" bench mounted belt sander, my 1" belt/8" disc sander, and my drill press, have taken my boat building to another level...

It's always nice to have the right tools! HAVE FUN TOM!!

I'm sure I will Darin. I don't plan to cut anything wood on it" 1/4 ply will be the thickest. I use cut off wheels for CF and the water cooled band saw @ work for metal. A drill press and combo belt disk sander are all I need to fill in the gaps now. Who knows maybe some day I'll build a wood cat of my own :) .

                Tom,
I purchased some RYOBI power tools about six years ago. 4x36 belt, with a 6" disc sander, drill press and a 18"scroll saw. I haven't had any issues with them all, and I can't remember how many boats we have built.

Enjoy your new purchase and be safe.
