SuperVee 27 - Test run with Feigao 7XL motor

    Hey all,

Finally got that flex cable issue sorted out with the SV27. Took it for its first working test run today.

I'm gonna need a bigger lake.

In fact the ears of my CF42 were sheared off today on the second run. Guess 10 million rpm's and force will do that. I have a OC x440/3 but it cavitates like a b. Takes forever and a day to get on plane ... and with my small lake...

Maybe not. Flying helicopters for 20 years has taught me that nothing lasts forever.

First some things to get out of the way, so no one throws them back at me later. I'm not an expert in FE boating, far from it. I'm relatively new to the hobby. Ok that's been said.

Now, the reason for the extreme setup is to get this 27" hull to go a certain speed. I want to see if I can get her to 65 mph. I don't know but after watching some 100+ videos of the SuperVee on Youtube, I haven't seen it pushed that fast yet, so I made it a goal. Since it's already over 60 I feel confident I can get 65.

I like experimenting, it's a lot of fun for me and I learn a lot. For instance, proving that a RC heli can fly stabilized without a flybar and without a Vbar system whereas it was previously only a dream. Showing that a FP can in fact do a loop under the right circumstances where it wasn't thought possible before. That rotor blades can hit water and still fly, etc. The list goes on. And afterwards I share what I've learned with others. In short, I've always done things with helis that could be considered, er, for lack of a better word, crazy. Hence the name "CrazyHeliDude." Some people in the heli community didn't get me at first. Now understanding my nature, most of them do.

The goal with the SV27 is probably less complicated. 65 mph stable and I'm out, although I could easily see the temptation to want to hit 70, but I digress. About that motor and the high rpms. Oh I'm sure at some point it will go boom, at which point I'll put in another motor and keep going all the same. But after all, this (my) 27 wasn't bought for Sunday afternoon boating on Willow Pond. It's a bit like the Space Program. A few things had to blow up (no disrespect intended, I love the Space Program) before they got men successfully into space. The X1, the X15, Saturn V. Everything constantly on the verge of blowing up .. volatile ... fuel burning .. things rattling, near shaking apart, but all to serve some need to satisfy an unexplainable curiosity ... that enigmatic desire to have to go faster and further. To see what's beyond what's already been done. Well, sort of the same thing here, just a much smaller scale. Maybe virtual sponsons will come out of all this. We'll call it Vsponse. Or with new HV high-speed servo technology, maybe CATTS (Constant gyro Actuation Trim Tab System). The boat will seem to always plane and run roll and pitch-wise level and stable, as if on rails, regardless of minor surface disturbance or water conditions. Who knows. Once again I digress.

So I'm very curious to see what this hull will do when pushed to the extreme. Some may see this differently, but the fact that I'm a relative amateur to FE, IMHO makes it all the more interesting. Thank you for your indulgence in this thread.

Good on you , lipo , its good to see some positive input , we are all guilty of running out of control set ups at some time in our life , too many times i have seen people cop crap for doing so. i did with my SV & got a 57 mph pass out of it ,but soon learnt the hull is not made for it , but had fun pushing the limits !! , now im doing the same with my DF hull which can handle the speeds im aiming for.

OK. Now that I know that you know what you're getting yourself into....more power to ya! If it goes, try a lower kv motor with higher voltage and a bigger prop. It will be a bit more reliable, and prob faster! In fact run that motor on 4s with a m445 and see how she does.

I had my BJ-26 in the past doing 57Mph on saw runs and it was cool, so do it up....
Fun is fun, racing and beeing by the book with others, thats another story....

I like your thinking Zephrus................the worst case is you buy another 65 dollar motor..............i experiment all the time......and blow lots of things up. "How much can she take" is a common thought for me.

Hell..............i have Neu in an NQD..............
