    Triton..next prop for 50mph...

I ran my Triton this weekend with (Neu 1521/1.5d, 4s2p, x642, 180amp esc) and got about 44mph out of it. The boat ran really well and cool and I basically ran it over the course of two days with no problems. It is starting to look like it is going to nose up and take flight every now and then(might need some weight).

My goal is to get this boat running in the low 50's and reliable. So what should I prop up to? I did some reading and it seems like an m447or maybe something like a 3blade x450? or bigger??

I did just a get a custom prop which is an ABC h6 that is modified (3.75" of (T.E.) cup, 2.73" (C.O.B.) 44.27mm Dia. This prop is headed for usage in an insane hydro, but not sure how to calculate what this will do per rotation to see where it fits in the scheme of things.. The prop is made by a guy named Michael Sholund and it looks like a work of art. Highly polished.

Mark Sholund does wonderful prop work alright. But to get the Triton over 50 you need more pitch than an x447 has. Try a Prather P-230, a two bladed prop. The Prathers have different lift characteristics than the Octuras so you may have to change the strut angle a bit....or not. Watch the heat, but that motor will swing the larger props.

Thanks Fluid, always a great help. I will try the Prather out. I have read that this Triton hull is good to the low 50's so I am trying to operate within what the hull is cabable of. It doesn't seem to turn as well as the DF33 copy I had, but it is a great looking boat on the water and I am having a blast running it.

I have a nearly brand new sharpened and balanced x450 prop (from OSE) if you are interested (has only 1 run on it-- too big for my hull, got too much chine walking).

Thanks for the offer Chief, not quite a big enough jump up from the 447 I have to use it. What kind of hull were you using the prop with?

                  Hi,
I have a toysport syncron and right now the fastest prop I have on it is an X448 on 4S. It accelerates even faster on the x450, but once up to speed I get too much chine walking. I would think it would work well on the larger triton hull.

If you want to borrow the x450 to check it out you can-- let me know on a PM and I'll ship it to you, just ship it back when you are done testing (somebody on this site shipped me some props for free to test, so I thought I'd return the favor...).

I also tested an x648 which has way more total pitch than the x448 (and x450), but I swear my boat is faster on the x448... I must be hitting the rpm sweet spot on the x448.

                  Chief

Jay, I just got the S-230 prop you recommended. The thing is huge. I will probably give it a try this weekend when I get out to the river. I am running a turnigy 180amp esc. I hope it holds up....

Forgot to update this. Ran it with the S230 and that did the trick. Runs in the low 50's and more importantly runs very reliably.

                        Hi,
I also have a new sharpened and balanced X648 (total pitch is 3.040") which is also too much prop for my syncron (runs cool with my neu motor, but too much chine walking on the 29" hull). If you'd like to test with that prop I'd be happy to ship it to you at no charge-- you can ship it back when done testing, or PM me if you would like to buy it.
