    detachable motor mount?

maybe this idea already exists, but, i was thinking about a motor mount with a detachable base (that gets glued) to the hull, and the actual motor mount attaches to the base with some sort of locking system for easy removal of the motor. just brainstorming

i think what we need is a capsule like in F1 boats but for our electronics
in event of a large crash the capsule breaks away from the rest of the hull keeping them safe

Actually two allen screws hold the mount to the base. The vacu-boat mount is cool, but if you use a larger diameter motor like a castle or neu with a water jacket it becomes really difficult to acess the screws. Ask me how I know!

yeah lol, so youve tried this? well acessing the allen screws is usualy a PITA on ANY boat. which is why i like the idea of a detachable Bracket the motor mounts to.

Yeah, I have one on a castle motor. I had to cut an allen wrench down to access the screws. It is a nice mount, I just wouldnt call it a "quick-release" mount!

A tip for getting already loosened /hard to reach hex head bolts out in tight places.... A piece of large ID cooling line slipped over the bolt head. It makes it thick enough to turn with your finger tips.

I have the boat below that I needed to move the COG toward the stern and I use the Feigao 580L with cooling sleeve. I found the mount below from ebay and mounted it on 2 pieces of 1/8" plywood, one on each side. I then fashioned another 2 pieces of plywood to be glues to the bottom of the hull. These 2 pieces have tounges at the back end and steps (railings) along the outside. I attached 2x8-32 brass wood screw inserts to the opposite ends of the toungs. I slid the motor and mount combo onto the railings and drilled 2 hole line up with the brass inserts.
First time, I set the whole unit until I found the proper COG, then made a few marks, next I removed the motor and the mount, glued the bottom rails at the marks. To mount the motor, I slide the motor and mount on top of the rail until the tounges on the back of the rails catch the end of the motor mount. Insert 2x8-32 brass screws. To remove, I just unscrew the 2 brass screws and pull the whole motor and mount out.
Sorry for not having the pictures, but below are the boat and the mount that I started with:

Here is a dual motor mount for my Mean Machine you might find of interest. Two s/s bolts and the mount is out including the shafts and couplers. I can re lube both shafts in about a minute.
