    Shovel Nose Hydro

Im thinking of building one with spec power. I don't know what's out there so all recommendations are welcome. I do prefer glass hulls though.

Yeah I sent Brian a pm. Waiting to hear back from him. I would say 25-30".

The Dark Horse is really too small and narrow for UL-1 power IME. Several of us run them, and they suffer from minor chine walking and have trouble in rougher water. They can be made to work, but if you are starting from scratch why handicap yourself?

A better choice would be a larger hull in the 28"-32" range. There is a world of difference on the water between a DH and the larger Whiplash for example, and it's not just the pickle fork. A club member runs a larger scratch-built round-nosed LSH with UL-1 power and it is great.

Jay do you have any suggestions? I'm having a little trouble locating any shovelnose hydros.

BTW I don't race but will agree that a decent handling hull should be a good start.

This one is in the size range, but I don't know anything else about it.

I made a 22" 1/16 scale shovel nose and I really like it. Nothing like running with a $10 battery for 3s-2200 power!

Jim, you ever finish that micro shovel nose? What is that, about 1/24th?

As soon as I started running larger hulls (30" range), my boats have been right side up more time than upside down!

The Campbell bros make most of the 1/10th scale hulls in the PNW. YOu can get them anywhere from basic CF shells to completely ready to drop in the water and run. They're fast and handle well. Lots of different designs to choose from. Contact them at: [email protected]

                    1/10th is about 30 inches.

I may be putting a brand new fiberglass round nose on the swap shop soon. I run it with spec power. Great runner.
