    Sprint Cat .40 Hardware

I've got a new Sprint Cat .40 hull that I need to pick up some hardware for. This will be my first build, so I'm looking to get a little nudge in the right direction in picking out hardware for it. I was looking at the following:

    Strut:
    http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...Sport-20-strut

    Rudder:
    http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...d=ros-spdr-010

Am I on the right track or am I off in the weeds? How much setback do I need for the rudder? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Any advice for what setback length to get for the rudder?

Its not backwards. Thats how many nitro or gas boats get their strut mounted. Strut is still facing forward. Its the mounting bracket thats backwards. Nitro and gas runners put the bracket on the inside of the transom with the strut thru the bottom of the hull.

you say tamatto I'll say tomatto....any way you look at it dude ......something in that picture is backwards....sure you can turn the bracket around and the picture is right.......the sharp end of that bottom part of that strut HAS to cut the water

                  so the picture IS backwards

You still dont understand. Can you figure it out now? Strut mounted inside the hull. Sharp side of the strut still cuts thru the water.

I understood what you said the first time but you were still wrong saying that we were wrong.
THE PICTURE SHOWS SOMETHING BACKWARDS......I dont care if you mount it inside or outside of the hull....the one in that picture wont work

this is how the picture should look

you have to coordinate the lenghts so that when you are done...the leading edge of the rudder is pretty close to even with the front of the drive dog thats in front of your prop

looking at it from the side or top

this is true unless you decide to mount your rudder on the centerline...lol

I've always liked the SpeedMaster hardware and would recommend it. However your initial pictures I do not agree with: 1) the strut is to small for the 40 cat and 2) there is no reason to have the rudder set back that far, now if I could get the strut set back that far..........

However you put it, the pointy part goes forward towards the hull, into the advanceing water, towards the stern - whatever, but thats how it goes. The (back) flat portion of the strut is where the drive dog goes, hopefully with a set of bushings, bearings, etc.

Also, guess who runs a flat bottom strut on his cat boat... Why, I want to help hold the back of the boat up to keep the prop up and running like a surface prop and secondly to hold the bow down - works for me.

This statement is incorrect. I'm not saying that you are wrong and I'm right. I'm telling you that there is more than one way to mount a strut. Maybe this picture will open your eyes. It works for IC hulls because it dosen't matter if they get a little water in their hull. After this post I'm not going to even look at this again. Just do some research before you say that something is wrong.

The strut in each picture is in the exact same position.
