    Replacement motor for Tenshock Mono1

    Hi,
I'm looking for recommendations to replace a motor for a tenshock mono1. The boat is a stepped mono, 23inches long. A feiago 380 will fit, but not sure which size or KV. I'd like to get about 35mph. Should I look at a 380L or XL? Which KV? Should I run 2S or 3S? Help...

    i use a 28x47 2700kv link

    video link

i get braver nearer the end of the video
3s 1300mah 40 amp esc stock prop, could easily prop up as this runs cool , very cool and the six pole motor has alot of torque

Ok, I've found 2 motor options, but I need some advice on which one would be best. I'm targeting around 28,000 RPMs.

          Option 1) 380 8L 3633 KV on 2S1P. S/b around 27,000 rpm

          Option 2) 380 9XL 2612KV on 3S1P. S/b around 29,000 rpm

Is there any reason I would want to use the lower KV motor with a higher cell count vs. using a higher KV motor with a lower cell count?

You will have more a better torque curve using the lower kv motor with the higher voltage. And you might find as well your in a better motor eff rpm range too. But I dont know that for sure. You would have to look at the eff range using the voltage in to determine that. But it would make sense that it is. There is a motor calculator on the NEU web site that could do some of the computations. Use the basic version. Or you could do it long hand using "Dyno Math" if you can find an online copy. Or FeCalc? Havent used that in so long I dont remember all of what it does anymore.

Yes..........less heat. I run one of these in a 28" mono on 4s, its a bit large for it, but light.......get about 27mph or so out of it

Two small 2s batts may fit in your boat, these are very light...3.8 ounces each!

a mate of mine brought one of those monos when they first came out
guy told him motor was around 1300-1500kv
so he dropped 6s into it.
after the first run we realised somthing was wrong as he couldnt get past around 1/2 throttle
turns out motor was 4200kv, so yep thats a bit over 93,000 rpm at nominal volts.
here is a video, you can see when it gets to half throttle thinks its a plane

I have a 380 8l for sale in the swap shop. I used this with 3s in a hydro. With 2s in A mono you could spin at least a 635 no problems.

                            Hi,
I'm really struggling to decide if I should go with 2S1P with a higher KV 380XL (like 380 6xl, 3917KV), or a 3S1P with a lower KV 380XL (like 380 10xl 2352KV). All things being equal, I'd prefer the 2S setup, as my other 2 boats run 2 x 2S1P packs so I can reuse the batteries, but the primary concern is 35+mph for the 22" mono1 hull, and do this as cool as possible for reliability.

Any advice? The hull has a flood chamber, so I'd like to be pushing the speed limit on it, but I don't want to burn anything out...

The 3s will be more reliable as it will run cooler............... H. king sells 3s lipos in smaller mah for real cheap.............i have a couple.
