Do I need two water pickups?

    Hi Guys,

Im redoing my 25" DF copy.

The last time out on the pond I thermo'ed the ESC- which has never happened before.

When its all said and done (at this point):
Water comes in thru the rudder
    Into the motor mount
    Into the motor
    Into the ESC
    Out the hull

    Is that correct order?

Should I move into two water pickups/exits? Run the ESC on its own circuit?

On a side note I just bought/installed a new drive and it fits rather TIGHT in the stinger drive. I think i should polish a few thousandths off it...

All I know is that the water should always go to the ESC first then to the motor because you want the coolest water to reach the ESC as it's more sensitive to heat.

    Water:
    1 enters
    2 into ESC
    3 motor
    4 motor mount
    5 out

The order of cooling importance is....ESC, Motor, mount..............drop the mount if needed.

Another consideration is the temperature of the pond water, deeper into summer the pond is probably hotter now than it was a month ago. Warm water does not cool components as well as cold water. You may need to prop down a bit, or reduce run time.

Good point fluid.............i based some of my running temps in January.............very acceptable has now turned into borderline as July has hit. Also, a pond tends to just sit and bake................the surface water is warm.....................

Driveline friction will definetly heat things up quickly! Make sure that prop spins nice and freely!

              Thanks for the replies.

Sounds like Im OK with just one water inlet then.

I will work on polishing the propshaft down.

The place Im running this boat at when it happened is a quarry with cold water in it, quite deep. More than likely its that new drive system being to tight. I figured it would wear in on the first run, guess not.

just to put into perpective the difference in water temps, my job is a boiler engineer so i have to check incoming mains water temps and the hot water from the boiler to make sure that the boiler is giving a good enough temp rise. When checking in the winter the incoming main will be about 5deg but checking it now in the middle of summer its upto just over 20deg. i know it will be different for water in a lake or pond but it just shows the massive difference in water temps in the summer and living in the Uk we dont always get that hot a summer.
