    Being Competitive

There is a book by Lance Armstrong called "It's more than the Bike", or something to that effect...

Funny how there are several people in our club who run the EXACT same equipment as Brian and Greg... yet they can't beat them to save their lives...

Isn't it interesting how Brian, when he runs it, wins almost EVERY Spec SV27 race he's in... (when he's not racing it... I win... )...

Pehaps the fact that the new P-Sport Hydro record was set CONVINCINGLY with a little 'ol Dark Horse Shovel, and $69.00 Ammo motor, and NON-Paralleled 4S1P Lipo pack might help highlight how misleading statements like you made above are...

...OH, and it was followed fairly closely by a prototype for what will soon be the new Aquacraft RTR Sport hydro...

... and I finished third at the Nats in P-Mono using an SV27 with nothing more than an alternate motor/esc combo and Lipos... Ran in P-Offshore and almost got a placing there as well...

...OH, and I WON P-Mono last weekend, against the big boats, running my 26" DH Mono... on 3S non-the-less rather than the allowed 4S...

... and I had Corey all over me all three heats running his SV27 with Ammo motor in it, stock ESC, and 4S1P Lipos...

And also, ask Steven about being competitive... If I recall correctly, he took ONE boat to the 2005 Nationals and raced it in 6 classes, or something like that... changing nothing more than the prop and batteries...

"HI-Rollers" my butt... I sold ALL of my other hobby stuff to invest in this hobby, and now I sell stuff in order to buy other stuff...

But it's MORE than just the boat... You have to think for yourself a little bit and not just follow along with misleading crap like you're spewing here...

You'd be suprised what you can do if you actually take the time to understand what you are doing... pay attention to detail, and learn to drive as opposed to just buying equipment...

This is really sad, because my wife and I are planning on moving to Colorado in the next year, and I was really hoping to find a good RC boat racing club there... Guess I may have to start my own...

Doozie... I'm pretty sure that some felt the same way coming to the Nats to race in N1-Mono.... I'm assuming you know of whom I speak...

I'll have fun either way... I just like to race...

            nascar

"ahem" {raising my hand for permission to speak}...this might be a little off subject here boys, but i was just was watching a show on nascar engine builders...didnt realize that some of the nascar engines can be as much as 40 horsepower more than others, yet the car with the most horespower doesnt always win the race. interesting.

i think to be competitive you need the whole package, the equiptment, the set-up and the driving. you cant win consistantly if you dont have all three, especially in the spec and limited spec classes.

personally, i get stoked when i beat a guy that i know has spent more money than me, on his boat, or has "better" equiptment than me!:D and i know how i feel after i get beat by a "slower" boat also

with the exception of drag racing where you dont have to turn you can have the all the horsepower in the world but if you cant get it down to the pavement/dirt/water/etc. or get the vehicle to turn it isnt worth crap.

If I won the lottery, I'd buy the "best" boat I could get my hands on. I'd put all the "best" HW on her. I'd buy the "best & most expensive" power plant on earth.

I'd still loose every race, because I can't drive when there are other boats in the water.
                Dirty can vouch for that.

The fastest boat in the world can't win a race in the hands of someone like myself, or sitting upsidedown in the water.

Dooz, Darin this exchange between the two or you is a great example why I love racing in general so much. IMO it reflects the classic David & Golieth struggle. When it comes to racing this is what I live for. We may lose our tempers @ times & even roll around in the dirt some times. @ the end of the day how ever we still kick back with a couple cold ones and laff it up. When you guys do finaly race expect to see me. I dont wana miss this one!!

I set up a really freaking fast n2 mono for under 700 bucks and i bought it's own charger as well as a radio.
SO if you have that stuff ( most do ) it will be less!.
i run lehner CC80 IB4200's( not lipo still one of the fastest)
cost me not much at all and i have NO problem playing with the BIG 300 amp puller guys.
There are ways to run fast with out a HUGE budget and you CAN do it.

                        Taylor, that's great...

But this is the kind of stuff I'm talking about... WHO is pulling "300 amps"?? This is a complete exageration... fueled by the guys on the red-board who wanted to whip everyone up into a hysteria to fuel their agendas...

Have you guys been listening to what I and others have said?? Two of the fastest N2-Monos in the country are here in our club... Same exact setups... One running a Hydra 240 and the other a Hydra 120... Batteries are standard 2S2P 20C or 25C rated cells... Everything is staying super cool... NO ONE is pulling anywhere near 300amps... My setup is the same now as well, and I'm just using a Barracuda 125... Again, upper 40s to mid 50s, and NO WHERE NEAR 300amps... Nowhere near even 200 amps...

Please, if you guys are going to use examples... use REAL ones... based on actual data and factual information... Otherwise, the hype will continue to spread and people will continue to be mis-informed about the realities of this technology... and what is really necessary to have fun racing AND be competitive...

No one I know is spending "$1500-$3000" to be competitive in P-Mono, N2-Mono, N2-Sport... or any other class under 12-cells for that matter... If they are, the extra $$ is going to "Bling", not for performance...

At that race I also placed 2nd in the standings out of about 20 p-monos with a carbon prop!

If I was starting the hobby today I would look into.......
First a used supervee. Unfortunately boats are not for everyone and there are alot of these around. The supervee will get you a ok hull with ok hardware. This hardware and hull will allow you to compete in several classes and have fun and hang in the front of the pack if your driving is good enough.
