Typically (in horses) you put in the claim before the race and cannot reclaim until the next race,(assuming that horse is put back in a claimer) ownership is changed after the race regardless of what happens during the race (horse breaks a leg or motor/esc is burned down) you are still the new owner of it for the set price.

Its an interesting concept. It works in horses because the guys that play with them are gamblers. Claiming is a interesting gamble!Steven Vaccaro

Claimer racing is great fun, especially if the part responsible for the advantage isn't the claimed item.
I had a great time playing that game with stock 4wd 1/10 offroad buggies back in highschool (long ago). I ran a chasis that was poorly built but very well designed for efficiency (mugen-a joke when it was first introduced). It took some tinkering to make the car live, but it was very fast once you got it worked out.
Claimer motors (because we all know that is the secret), I never got to take a motor home with me but that wasn't the secret. It didn't hurt that I was actually making a couple bucks on each motor that got claimed.

Steven is right, and perhaps is saying what I'm trying to say better than I can... To each his own... run the classes that work for you and enjoy yourselves... But stop putting others down for doing the same... We can't all race NASCAR or F1... Some of us have to race at the local Super Stock level instead... That's life... embrace it and enjoy...
Do what ever you want at a club level, we are.
But I can tell you, I won't be traveling to attend "Claimer" or "Restrictor Plate" races.
My heart is in FAST ELECTRICS and most importantly, having fun!!

There is a very simple cure for all the nonscence thats going on right now in oval racing above the spec level. Its called a claimer, whats going on now is nothing new, i.e. the guy with most money spent is probably going to win overall in the long run. Thats why to even things out, claiming was invented, probably 100 years ago maybe longer, what claiming means is, any racer in that particular class can claim any other racers (in this case boat) for X amount of dollars. Its extremely effective in other racing applications from dirt track cars to horses.
Even if the class had this rule you would have to BEAT MY @$$ or kill me to get them.
PLUS if the person has the money to claim your horse/car/ boat, on the spot, then he is probably a HIGH ROLLER ANYWAY, and just effectively eliminated you or anyone else from BUDGET racing.
THE CLAIM THING IS JUST A COPOUT FOR THE PERSON WHO DOES NOT WANT TO TAKE THE TIME TO LEARN, JUST WANTS EVERYTHING DONE FOR HIM.Last edited by Jeepers; 09-28-2007, 08:31 PM.Comment

Allright the idea sucks, I get it.. Im still pissed that in the last month I have spent more money on just powering a lipo N2 boat than I have in both my lso and lsh combined, and this is generally considered to be the next step after spec. Its a big jump IMO. no hard feelings anyoneComment

I feel your pain Doozman!!!
I sold everything but Mrs. Smock's jewlery to go LiPo this year. I'm afraid to add it all up.
I was pretty upset with me, spending all that money. However, the pain was GONE when I got out there with my buds setting the lake on fire.
(so to speak) LOL
Good luck with your N-2!!

Brian wasn't kidding when he said that the only thing we've had to replace was the worn-out connectors! Imagine that!! The batteries are outlasting the contacts!
It doesn't hurt also that my field box is lighter! No more damn NiMH to carry around! 2-3 packs PER BOAT none-the-less...
In our minds, there IS not debate... I promise you that you'll soon forget about the initial costs and will NEVER want to go back!Darin E. Jordan - Renton, WA

Doozie your idea has some merit however the idea of equipment claiming that is used in many forms of racing was designed to prevent cheating, not to create an equal performance package. The rules should be written to allow for that. The rules as they are today force you to spend money in order to compete on a grander scale. Many clubs are creating their own rules to compensate and keep racers racing. You are not the only FE boater feeling this way. In fact there has been a major down turn in membership of both model boating organazations and over all boating sales since the rules have been applied. (according to 3 major sources) Many racers are simply leaving the hobby rather then laying out more money. Perhaps this will clear up but who knows what new technology is around the corner.Last edited by ROOSTERTAIL; 09-29-2007, 07:57 AM.Comment
