Motor/ESC running hot, not sure why

    Hi,
I have a tenshock mono1 that is rated up to 4S, and I'm running it on 3S. The driveline turns freely and I can't feel any problem if I turn the prop by hand. But after only a few minutes the motor and ESC run *really* hot (including the coupler), and I also see throttle response problems after about 1 min -- when I release the throttle it sometimes takes 2 or 3 seconds for the boat to respond (I suspect this is due to overheating)-- rather unnerving when bringing her back to shore!

It also runs rather sluggishly-- it is a stepped hull and just gets up on plane but runs about only 25mph if that. Word on the street is this model should fly on 3S.

I've reset the ESC with the programming module being careful to specify lipo setting, and auto-timing select. I've also doublechecked the radio throttle settings.

I'm trying to figure out if the problem lies with the ESC or the motor-- I have an extra proboat fastech ESC that I will try to swap in.

Anything I should look for on the motor side? I don't have another small diameter motor to swap in to check it...

One thing I do notice is when I turn the shaft there is no customary "bump" due to the magnets like I feel with my proboat or neu motors-- not sure if that is normal for tenshock motors-- I'm kinda wondering if the motor was demagnetized. Is there any way to check that?

some of the higher kv motors dont have that torque cog as the nicer ones, not sure of you prob but some of my motors dont feel the same as the lower kv higher quality motors, esc or prop?
